bikemad Report post Posted April 1, 2009 �$%&^$%&*$&(%^*)(*&)^* Well he has finally dx'd borderline hyperactivity and mild add but still nothing on the more bigger thing of aspergers even tho everyone and his brother know ds has it but nooooooooooooooooooooo this plank is concentrating on the add..................he had me n ds playing ###### bricks yesterday to see how ds plays n when I told him the reason ds changed school(due to 3yrs bullying) n that he was suicidal he told ds it was prob cos the kids didn't like him hyper.............wtf!!!!!!!!!! It was cos they call him an oddball, gay etc. He also asked did I want parenting classes!!!!! Ive had enough n am seriously considering going private but don't have a clue were to begin with that but will be putting in a complaint and request to see someone else. What is it with camhs they are so useless. The school both old and new have asked when he will be sorting the dx cos it is blatantly obvious ds has aspergers and the pead I saw last week said the same as did o/t but this idiot argh......the add isnt a big deal but the aspergers is. Enid Report post Posted April 1, 2009 Go to your GP and say I want a second opinion, thats all you have to say, they have to refer you to another neighbouring CAHMS who will have a fresh look at everything, it really is worth it and it dosnt cost anything!!!! Sally44 Report post Posted April 2, 2009 I'm in the East Midlands and we don't get referred to CAHMS. I don't understand why you are being sent there? You need to go to your GP and ask for a referal to a unit that specialises in diagnosing autistic spectrum disorders including Aspergers. Everyone says that CAHMS tends to put the onus back onto the child and family!! Also you MUST speak with the National Autistic Society helpline about how to go about getting a diagnosis in your area. Don't your Developmental Paediatricians diagnose ASDs - our do. Don't your Clinical Psychologists diagnose ASD - ours do. What about Educational Psychologist and Speech and Language Therapists etc. They must all have seen and assessed your son?? Some private schools (specal need), also assess and diagnose. But I would really speak with the NAS and also IPSEA.org about getting a diagnosis and the right support. You can also go private. Ive no idea tbh why I was sent there...then again most of the parents ive spoken to in the waiting room dont seem to know why they see camhs n they all have complaints about them. Il def speak to the NAS.....ed psych and salt and o/t have all seen my lad n all believe he has aspergers as do the teachers n head etc and ds's doc who did the original referal to the pead. I asked the pead who does the dx n he said camhs??? Il give nas a ring Monday morning and explain the situation and also am going to request a 2nd opinion or 2nd referral to a different camhs. pookie170 Report post Posted April 4, 2009 I think it varies all over the country- here in central scotland, certainly, the only option is CAMHS for DXing, to the best of my knowledge. Other services may be/become involved, such as SS, SALT, Ed Psych etc, but the DXing is done by a psych at CAMHS...... And if one wants a second opinion, then you do it like Enid sez!
