Another new one!

Recommended Posts

Hi All.

Just thought i'd pop in and introduce myself!

I'm Leighann, have 3 children, 13, 9 and 4. My 4 year old has been diagnosed with ASD on a moderate scale. Fought for 2 long solid years to find out his problem and finally we have a diagnosis. But then that's all we have... oh and leaflets.

I've had to give up full time employment as i was struggling to cope with everything. My son started school last week, we have a statement, which again we had to fight for, and appeal against :tearful: and still ended up getting silly hours ... a whopping 15.

We decided to try him in a mainstream school for the time being, although even after the first week am begining to wonder if we did the right thing. Keep telling myself its just the first week, give it time!

Anyway now i talked your ears off i'll depart!

Leighann

Hi, welcome, I understand the anxieties around statements and mainstream, let the IEP run its course this term, in the mean time keep a dairy of his behaviour or write down your concerns, my son started at school with 30 mins per week support on SA+ it took years to fight for the right provision, a lot we had to prove it wasnt working with support, if he is not making any progress then request additional hours, even for playtimes and dinner times which are often overlooked.

Goodluck, have to go taking cat to vetxxx

Thanks for the Welcome!

As for the statement, we are pushing for an early review, also they have or are covering lunch and play times which is good. It just seems all we have been doing for the last couple of years is fight for help. :wallbash:

Not having a great day today so aplogise if this sounds whiney!

Thanks again for the welcome.

Leighann xx
