Tents

Recommended Posts

Any tent experts on here?

we're looking at getting a family tent - minimum two bedrooms, must sleep 6+, and be easy to put up/take down cos of DH's arthritis

Summer-time use in the UK - so needn't be mountain quality, but will need to withstand rain, wind & posible sleet (British summer being what it is).

We thought, on a brief internet search, of something like the Gelert Seabury (http://www.gelert.com/Products/Seabury_6_Tent.aspx) but advice would be very welcome - I haven't ever modern camped before, and DH not since scouts 30 years ago

We are going camping in the summer too we have a small four man tent but really it sleep two comfortable, so I would always go for a tent that takes more people than you need so for a 6man tent go for a 8 man tent.

Milletts have a sale on at the moment, we bought ours from there, and ours was half prices when we got it.

Id quite fancy the teepee but not much privacy so put off a bit.

Anyway what about this one, vango are a quality make and good for the rain, as thats the most inportant, so you dont get wet and damp.

We have a Khyam Ontario 8. It is a tunnel tent, so fairly easy to put up and it has bedroom at each end. It is tall enough to stand up in too.

If you look on ukcampsite.co.uk you can read lots of reviews of various tents - take your pick.

Tents with a built in ground sheet are best, seperate ground sheets let more damp in; but the tents with built in ground sheets are very good, even in strong winds.

if you want it to sleep 6 people then best bet is an 8 man. they say they sleep 6 or whatever, but thats a myth based on you sleeping 1 inch from the people either side! so unless you want to get really friendly, get a bigger one!

one you can stand up inside is a great idea, as is one with space to put things like smelly boots, so that they're in out of the rain, but not in your main sleeping/living area.

other than that it doesn't really matter what tent you get, its the 'extras' which will be important - good sleeping bags, mini airbeds if you're carrying equipment (a full size single will take up 2 people sleeping space and be longer than the bedroom sometimes), lots of spare socks etc.
