yaaay........i think

Recommended Posts

we bit the bullet and paid for ds to go to for an assessment, amazingly we got into see the specialist today (funny how money works isnt it!!!)

anyways the dr verbally gave us a diagnosi of ADHD, he said i am not seeing aspergers but i am most definitely seeing ADHD, hes a textbook case. we are to have one more meeting then hes going to write his formal report

so YAAAY we have a diagnosis BUT <sob> we have a diagnosis. the sense of relief that i have not been imagining things all these years makes me feel validated but on the other hand its never going to be a great day when your child is diagnosed with something

ds was an absolute star today saying whats going on in his head and explaining as best he couldl i was SOO proud of him and told him so but of course this doesnt mean anything to him so we took him out for dinner to demonstrate it

sooo now we begin the next stage of this

Pleased and sad for you at the same time.

I hope the diagnosis helps your son and everyone involved with him.

I just wanted to add that it is also very common for children to have a main diagnosis and bits or traits of others. So, if you do still find that aspects of his behaviour don't fit ADHD but do fit AS (or anything else), then the best thing is for all involved to use the same structures and supports for a child with AS and see if that helps.

thanks .. i am still going to let him go for the ADOS asssesment as their are definitely traits of aspergers as well but at least we are getting somewhere.

like i said a shame we had to pay for it was worth it as i had to go to the PRU this morning and it was good ammunition with them as well. also can present it to the school that expelled him when we have that hearing

onwards and upwards as they say

www.adders is an excellent site for information on ADHD. You might find dietary interventions help him, calcium, fish oils and avoiding artificial's as much as you can. Do one intervention at a time.

Good luck, ive got a mate with ADHD.

Hope the Assessments continue to go well, and though they dont see AS at the moment doesnt mean it isnt there, its quite common when ADHD is more prenounced and obvous that it can mask other needs, at first Js ADHD was very obvous but as he got older and social gaps became wider there was obvous Social and communication difficulties, it is common for DX of ADHD to be first then followed a couple of years of AS, the most common dx is ADHD and AS, there is also High Functioning Autism and Other Language disoders so just letting you know there is always a possiblity of more been idenfitied especially with ADHD as it is rarely a disorder standing alone, it is usually accompanied.
