Annual Review.

Recommended Posts

Went along to sons annual review today. Went very much as expected, he is making steady progress but it was felt by all there that his present 10 hours a week 1:1 should/needs to be increased, to the point that his form teacher said that he "will not achieve his potential without full-time 1:1 support", both academically and socially.

The head teacher added to and amended the statement to reflect this.

I have been asked to put our views in a letter to be included. "One of your letters" as the head teacher put it.

It was hoped to get increased funding now as our area is in the proses of changing to more delegate funding of SENs, 15 hours or less in a statement will have to be funded out of school budget. Also a move away expressing need in terms of hours support. This would all have a big impact on provision of support when he moves up to secondary school in 2011.

Included from HT will be that if when he goes up to senior school, it meant traveling,he would need to go by taxi and not on the school bus. Our local small secondary school in the village is now a satellite to the main school 5 miles away, and it is not known at the present time, which site he would go to if he went to this school.

So overall we are happy with today's out come.

We also have our Parent Support Advisor coming to see us next week hopefully to sort out some provision outside of school.

Have just finished the "Parent views" bit of the review, will take it into school in the morning.

The statement as it stand says the right things, it is just amount of support that is needed to achieve what is sets out in it that is in question.

As we are here moving to a system were the amount of support a child gets will be expressed in terms of outcome and not in hours of 1:1 support, and if it is judged that to achieve this outcome the level of support is band 6(I think, which is equivalent to 15 hours of 1:1) or lower then the school will be expected to fund that out of its delegate funding.

His form teacher is of the opinion that he requires full time 1:1. At the moment he gets 2 hours dedicated 1:1 a day as per statement, plus other 1:1 time from delegated funding, which varies dependant on what is going on.
