New to this looking for help for my son

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone i am 26 and live with my partner and 3 children however my 6 year old son has some worrying problems that are causing concern. Apologies if i ramble on from the first moment my son sat up he rocked to and fro evrywhere in his buggy in his cot sat playing even eating at the table this made us wonder if something was wrong he would wake up in the morning his babygro would have blood along the spine where he rocked and banged his back against the bars of his cot yet not once did he cry or feel pain he has no sense of danger freaks out at loud noises has development delay and a violent temper however is reading 4 years above his age and spelling somewhere near but has only just learnt to write his name in the last few months. When he becomes angry he will lash out bite kick scream punch etc anyone including teachers siblings and me. he has been sent home from school twice in three days for being violent (throwing tables chairs computers) he even threw a chair at his headteacher and injured her knee. he has been accepted for a statutory assessment which apparantly is happening now we are working with the school senco parent partnership social services camhs ed psych and anyone else there is he has seen a speech therapist neurologist paediatrician ENT and numerous trips to the GP. The biggest concern is that we have suspected some kind of ASD for years now but no professional seems to want to admit that is the case am i over reacting ? or has someone else been here. i would appreciate any comments from professionals or parents who have been through or going through because we feel completely alone Please help !

Hi

Welcome to the forum. It sounds like your son could have ASD.It must be so annoying not having a diagnosis :wallbash: after seeing all those professionals. What kind of paediatritian did he see? It is worthwhile maybe requesting to be seen by someone with specialist knowledge of ASD's also maybe CAMHS maybe if your GP is'nt helpful see another GP.

A diagnosis may help alot with the stat assesment.

all the behaviour signs you have mentioned do signpost towards an ASD .....all adds up to bigger picture .... mother's instinct needs to be going on! as always right! lol i would get in touch with NAS as they can do an assessment through their service!

good luck though

fingers crossed you get some questions answered!

take care

I agree with the other posters, they do sound like ASD traits to me - I was about to say the you need to see your GP to get a referral to a paediatrician who specialises in Neuro-Development and Special Educational Needs but then re-read your post and saw that he's already been seen by one! How frustrating for you :wallbash: .

During the statementing process, however, the LEA will seek the advice of all the professionals you mention and your son should be seen by a paed (agaiin) so that they can submit their report (we have just been through all of this with Max) so hopefully you will start to be taken seriously by someone who matters! Don't give up though, a mother's instinct is usually right and if you still aren't being heard then keep at it and shout louder!

Good luck!

Hi I am new to the forum and feel I am going round in circles, and getting more and more desperate. My 12 year old son is currently being assessed by clinical psychologist and SALT.The psychologist has mentioned aspergers to him and are plannign to work with us to help him cope with his extreme anxieties, insomnia, abnormal attachments and food phobias/problems.

Our major issue is that he has refused to go to school since Jan and we are really struggling to get the local education authority to provide help to resove this!!!!

Does anyone have any advice?
