justine1 Report post Posted August 2, 2010 Hi everyone Dan finally had his initial assessment today, and the paed has said he is certain it is ASD,not sure where he is on the spectrum(he has ruled out Aspergers though) but he has very delayed speech and even more social problems than I originally thought.Speech therapist already gave me some brilliant tips and will send out more info about furthur help when they send a report from today. His IQ is off the charts for his age,and he kept surprising the paed with his capabilities,I was pleased as he doesnt interact with me much so wasnt sure how bright he really is. I got Melatonin as well, its in tablet form as its a slow release better suited for him as he can fall asleep but has disturbed sleep,so will try that. I am glad its over with,I am so exhausted

Pleased it went well and you have reassurances that "yes your son is autistic it's not your imagination". Much better than "over protective parent" rubbish. His IQ is off the charts for his age,and he kept surprising the paed with his capabilities, I was pleased as he doesn't interact with me much so wasn't sure how bright he really is. i found interacting with a non verbal autistic at autscape great fun. She spoke to me via a litewriter that once she typed said the words. It was easier to interact with her and she "spoke" slowly. She has a child and a PA. Another non verbal communication method is makaton. I got Melatonin as well, its in tablet form as its a slow release better suited for him as he can fall asleep but has disturbed sleep, so will try that. I am glad its over with, I am so exhausted Im also pleased for you that it is all over. Some parents have found b12 injections help their kids to speak.
