Been offered 20 hours a week support from social services

Recommended Posts

All I want is for them to leave me alone and stop harassing me but I feel I'm swimming against the tide as if I disengage with social services / community mental health team I will be sectioned again. They say I'm unaware I'm 'poorly'. They're is nothing wrong with me and they can't even give me a proper diagnosis yet. I'm getting fed up. I wish they would leave me alone.

I'm sorry you're being pressured to accept help you don't want.

Maybe your best bet in the long term would be to accept what they're offering. It might be the only way to prove that you don't need it.

I don't know the process with SS but they visit me two/three times a week after telling them countless times I dislike them and I don't need any support but yet they still come knocking on my door which I don't like answering then they tend to try the door or look through the windows. I feel they are keeping my diagnosis from me because when the head doctor said I have sighs of ASD I reacted negatively and stormed out the room, since them they don't even tell me what medication they recommend me take this time. It feels so intense at the moment.

I recommend you obtain an advocate, they act on your behalf, that way they talk on your behalf, you dont have to talk to SS/MH if you dont want to, the advocate can also find out what treatment is been advised, so if you are interested in an advovate then contact these organisations for a advocate.

http://actionforadvocacy.org.uk/articleServlet?action=list&articletype=10

Conctact Mencap for a local adult advocacy service in your area.

http://www.mencap.org.uk/landing.asp?id=2

I would definately look into accessing more support if you are threatened with a section as you have mental health rights too so I would contact MIND as well.

http://www.mind.org.uk/

You will have recieved an assessment of need to determin your support, 20hr of support is very impressive and I would definately take up the offer for the short time until the team have evidence that you dont require the ammount that you have been given.

Have you been sectioned before?

The mental health advocate's in the hospital are useless making false promises on when I was likely to be released. Mencap work for the CLDT for which I was in a LD hospital detained, the walls in garden were huge so no escape plus very boring. All I was sectioned for was talking very fast and taking the front cover of the gas boiler fixing it plus having a history of being in a special school. Yet they won't leave me alone wanting to see me four times a week and phoning me every day. I don't want this support I'm totally fine. I'm happy.

Talking very fast may of given ss/mh cause of concerns for your communication ability, I identify with the ss concerns that you removed the cover of the gas boiler fixing as this could actually blow up your home, and the history of been in a special school is actually positive that the social services want to ensure you are well because many ss wash thier hands once a child is in special school, I can see that phoning you everyday could be far too excessive so what about agreeing to four times a week for a month and then three times a week for a month until its once a week.

The more you shout at them you dont need them and your getting angry though could be giving the ss evidnce that your not well, so what about writing a letter of your feelings and what support you DO WANT.

I would defo still try to get an INDEPENDANT advocate, one that is totally detatched from your services.

You could also look at putting in a complaint to SS and MH if you feel that thier input is not warrented.

JsMum, I can fix my boiler which I have done many times, I can fix most things because I have special abilities from karma, The OT thought I was a damager when he called round plus he thought I was talking to manic and not sleeping, he got everything cut off and me sectioned but they make stuff up so they keep they're jobs thats why they were concerned. They want me to more to a adult placement so they can spy on me after the supported living, they can shuve it. I hate SS really bade.

The very fact that you can not see the issues inherent in this suggests the need for a degree of support, be it 20 hours or something less. There are a number of people who have replied saying they would love the support you have; of course there are different types of support, but the simple case is you would have not been given this if you did not need it. There isn't a vast amount of help available so they clearly feel you need support.

Re. the specific situation of the gas boiler. It is a legal requirement that you are a registered gas fitter if you do anything to the boiler. You are not putting just yourself at risk but also those in the houses/flats around you. The support is needed to keep others safe as well as yourself.

Charlie have you done any qualifications in gas safety/fittings, if so are you registered, you need to pass many health and safety checks before been able to go fixing gas biolers and the fact you even attemtped to fix your own bioler yourself is very concerning, even more concerning as you admit you had not been sleeping.

As mumble says the boiler will have to be registered gas fitter and corgi registered and afliated with the housing project, you can not fix it yourself as you will not be covered for insurance purposes and the safety of other people.

I think an advocate will be very helpful in helping you understand the law and regulations of having a tenancy and the housing contract you sign.

when J went to resi school he was very upset he could not use any of his electric items until it had been checked first by the schools own electrition, logged as safe and registered, J is very capable of taking things apart and put partly back to together, but he isnt registered or trained and it has to be the schools own register fitter.

I too have been at the other end of the foot as a parent with social services so I promise you I do understand where your logic thinking is coming from in that you feel they are only doing this to make your life harder but there have been some fantastic social workers and other proffessionals who have also worked with me and my family to ensure we have the right support too, at the moment I dont have a very particular nice social worker so I do understand but I do think some of the concerns the ss have and support been offered is probably because most importantly is that you do NEED it, for the short term at least, the way you are behaving you are giving them all the evidence they need because if you refuse the suppport they will use that against you and it will add further evidence that you need specialised 24hr support a DAY rather than 20 hrs a Week.

I really do advise you get an advocate and a solisitor to look at some proper assessmemts of your needs.

If you think the 20 hrs is wrong, except it for now and prove them wrong.
