High-ankle shoes (sandals?)

Recommended Posts

We've got a diagnosis to our son in friday. It is official, he is on the autism scale.

The doctor suggested us, we need to buy new shoes for him (high-ankle boots, sandals) which helps him to walk correctly (keeps the ankle on a right position).

Have you any ideas, where i can find special shoes, sandals for him? Any special suppliers?

Many thanks! :)

I guess your son is a pre-schooler??..or younger than 8yrs?

..........ok..coming from a different angle... my daughter..non autistic one..was born with club foot and has had to wear specialist supportive shoes most of her life..we got some via the hospital from the orthotics department.I you can,t get a referral for your son for this then the high street is the way to go.You,ll need to try and find a stockist of Richter shoes which have alot of ankle support. Also kickers do a good lace up boot and my daughters specialist recommeded Dr,Martens which they do for kids.Try the inter net for stockists..have splints or in soles been suggetsted???

.. best of luck suzex

Many thanks for your answer! :)

He is six years old and has difficulties with running and walking, his ankle-joints are a bit loose (is it the right phrase?) need some support now. You can buy high-ankle shoes for the kids in my original country, because this is recommended by the doctors. :)

I'm looking for not so special shoes, just a simple one, which can support his ankles.

Walking boots might be the answer. Some nice high ones will provide good ankle support. You can get boots that look more like trainers, so they wouldn't look out of place.

If your GP has suggested the shoes could you not have an OT or Physio assemssment? They have access to all sorts of shoe catalogues including Piedro. It's a while since I worked with kids who wore them but they were making them increasingly trendy.
