cuts in disabilities support services threatens to place more children in care

Recommended Posts

An article about childrens disabilities support services funding cuts will cause more children to be placed in care, and due to funding cuts more difficult to access the right support, provisions, services once they are in care.

My worry is once children are in care thats where the LA could ensure that they do all the deciding on the childs future and where they could monopolise all the funding to meet thier pursestrings and not the childs interests and whats best for the child.

The article expresses concerns on all types of disabilties including ASD.

Don't worry,

once the accountants have re checked their figure's they will realise it would cost far more money to put them in care, its just many of the funding cuts are just a knee jerk reaction. If it's any comfort the Social Services are'nt very happy about it either and know its not been thought out.

Actually it seems to me that some independent schools have quite a high number of residential "looked after" children because it is actually more cost effective because without the "free" support other children get from the family structure, those looked after children cost too much to be supported anywhere else other than residential special school.

In my local authority lots of people have taken early retirement or voluntary redundancy. The head of Psychology, specialist teaching, and Director of Commissioning have gone, as well as most of the specialist teachers and a number of inclusion officers.

Hi.

Whilst it may well be the case that cuts could have an impact on provision I think it is worth bearing in mind that this is a news article within a magazine. The magazine is written with a specific readership in mind. The publishers will have their own agenda. There is nothing wrong with this but it does not amount to any solid research evidence. It could be scaremongering by those with their own political or other agenda.

Karen.
