MsPinotage Report post Posted September 26, 2012 Hi everyone, My name is Mandy, Im mum to 4 boys, my eldest of which has just turned 10. I have felt for years something wasnt right with him... got knocked back twice for CAMHS referral via GP over last 2 years but school Psych saw him (for 10 minutes, twice for goodness sake). His behaviour recently has more or less ripped our family apart. He's had problems concentrating since he had to start doing this (yr 1), he's impulsive, restless, twitchy, has big problems focusing on a task, has huge tantrums and is incredibly impatient. Lately he has taken to attacking me when I say "no" to him (he's nearly as tall as me and 6 stone so this is a big problem) or smashing the house to bits. School have been useless. I went back to my GP a month ago in a tearful mess begging for another referral, and Im glad to say CAMHS have now seen him and he is just starting the assessment process at last. I just feel so aggrieved that it's taken so long I would love to hear from anyone who has been through similar, as Ive no idea what to expect as far as this process goes....how long it it likely to take for example? Also would love to hear from any parents out there with kids who have ADHD/ADD as this is what is suspected...how on earth do you cope with all of this? I have 3 other kids and the whole situation is totally disrupting family life...as it is the relationship with my other half. Any advice would be so much appreciated x
Sally44 Report post Posted September 26, 2012 Is he being assessed just for ADHD/ADD, or do they suspect autistic spectrum disorder too?

Shnoing Report post Posted September 29, 2012 (edited) Could be ADHD. Could be on the autistic spetrum in "overload mode", i.e. there's too much (social) information which cannot be processed in the brain. There, it would help to provide a quiet environment without too many contacts with other people. Does he have some area of "Special Interest"? That could be relaxing for him.
