Noskcaj86 Report post Posted October 26, 2012 Ok, so we moved house almost a month ago, the referral for speech therapy in our new area was sent well in advance of us moving but still we havent heard anything and my son has not had speech therapy since he left the language unit back in July. He was getting speech therapy 4 times a week in school along with being in a specialist language unit.... and now nothing. This is a bit worrying as I dont want his progress to slow down, he had been doing really well. Is it normal for things to take this long to set up? justine1 Report post Posted October 26, 2012 I know it varies depending on where you live some appointments can take anything from 1-2 months to a year! I would contact the place where you have been referred to and ask if they have received the referral(I have had to do this in the past) if so ask the approximate waiting time, they won't give you an exact waiting time based on your circumstances it will just be a general estimate. If he has started school where you have moved to you could ask them to write a letter to the speech and language team.
trekster Report post Posted October 27, 2012 i might be tempted to double check that the referral was sent over, although a different situation in my case a referral to the pain clinic at the BRI was mislaid going from St Martins in Bath. It took me many months of waiting and getting stressed out before i finally got the fax sent over and my appointment was made. Would it help to make an appointment with your new GP for your son so they can see how badly affected your son is by his speech delay? That could chivvy them a bit.
