Bryony Corney Report post Posted November 29, 2012 How do you get diagnosed, because I want to know if this applies to me, and my GP said it's too difficult to diagnose in adult life. My therapist said it was the next thing to look into after i stopped seeing him after three sessions. He said mildly asbergic? any ideas? Should I just give up? I just want an answer, it could explain a lot you see, the issues I've had since I can remember. I scored 39 on the online test, you know, the one that scores it out of 50. It said above 32 was the telling number, I don't remember what it was called though. This has all just happened today. Ideas please?
Willow-Tree Report post Posted November 29, 2012 I found that without going to a private specialist, I just got passed from pillar to post within the NHS. Psychiatrists/psychologists/therapist etc I'm not sure what to suggest. It isn't too difficult to diagnose in adult life, lots of people have been diagnosed as an adult, so the first thing I guess I was say is: get a new GP! If you can do that, then just go and see them and explain everything, see if they have anything better to say. It may be a long process though. It was for me! Actually, I just did a video on how long it took me/which route I went to get a diagnosis if you want to see it? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ibspaL1Xxq8&list=UU2OdMVzzL6SaOKyP0dTcllQ&index=5&feature=plcp
trekster Report post Posted December 3, 2012 Hi and welcome You might wish to try showing this link to your GP and reiterate why you wish to have a diagnosis. http://www.autism.org.uk/About-autism/All-about-diagnosis/Diagnosis-information-for-professionals.aspx In some areas obtaining a diagnosis is very tricky but if there isn't a diagnostician in your area your GP should be able to make a 'spot purchase' of diagnostic services from a neighbouring county. This is how to make a complaint if you are still being refused a diagnostic referral; http://www.autism.org.uk/about-autism/all-about-diagnosis/diagnosis-information-for-adults/diagnosis-making-a-complaint.aspx To get information about seeking a diagnosis try this link http://www.autism.org.uk/about-autism/all-about-diagnosis/diagnosis-information-for-adults/is-it-autism.aspx
