bid Report post Posted August 18, 2005 Hi all, Just had a meeting with my son's Connexions Adviser to inform us about the LSC's new format for funding post 16 special colleges. The essence seems to be that it will be harder to get funding for a place at a residential special college. The LSC are putting more resources and funding into mainstream FE colleges to enable students with SEN to attend their local mainstream FE college rather than going to special colleges. Mmmm...now, where have we heard this before?? I shall be phoning IPSEA tomorrow for advice, as it seems that even though our son is currently at a residential special school for AS, it will now be harder for us to get funding for him to go onto the associated residential special college for AS in 2006 The young person's local mainstream college will now have to make an assessment, using the LSC funding matrix for residential colleges. In other words, the local college will have to show that it would cost more to support the young person locally than sending them to a special college. But who will carry out this assessment, and are they AS specialists?? Are their guarantees that mainstream colleges will use additional resources for the benefit of the young people involved?? Has anyone else with an older child had this information yet? Can anyone add any more information? Bid
