gpvr Report post Posted September 29, 2005 If a case goes to tribunal but the local LEA will still not agree to fund a child with Asperger's through a specialist school (they will only recommend a mainstream school) - is there any other source that can be tried for possible funding? Surrey Report post Posted September 29, 2005 Ive not heard of it. I just made sure that I'd crossed every t and dotted every i before the tribunal. Look at every alternative school and have a good reason why its not suitable. Look at the what school you have chosen has to offer and match it to your sons needs. Envisage every argument the LEA will have against it and have an argument FOR it. Make sure you have been to see any schools that LEA have suggested. Its not good to just say you dont like it. Sorry I don't know of any alternative funding - although some Counties will agree to give you the money equivalent to the mainstream place, and for you to pay the difference. Hectorshouse Report post Posted October 1, 2005 I don't know about alternative funding, although there are some charities out there will fund parents in certain situations ... it takes some digging tho. What I do know is that when the tribunal make a decision the LEA must act upon it, they can appeal that decision to the high court but ONLY on points of law. When the tribunal have made their decision the LEA must follow the decision within a fixed period, beginning with the date the decision was issued. Depending on the type of appeal the LEA should follow the timescales below. - to start the assessment or reassessment process - 4 weeks - to make a statement - 5 weeks - to change a statement - 5 weeks - to change the school named in line with parent's wishes - 2 weeks - to continue a statement - immediately - to cancel (cease to maintain) a statement - immediately This info was taken from the SENDIST how to appeal book (09/2002), which you can get by calling 01325 392 555 or visit the website http://www.sendist.gov.uk Hope this helps, HHxx Quote Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
