mossgrove Report post Posted November 15, 2005 Hev It shouldn't be your job to sort this out. Ring the LEA transport people, explain the importance of consistency over timing for children with AS to the person you may speak to (They are trasport people not SEN people, so they may not have understood how important it is the taxis is on time) and ask them to deal with the Taxi company or find a new one. We found that our LEA transpot people were so used to being shouted at they were very defensive and had got used to saying no to people. When we phoned up and asked nicely and patiently for what we needed they agreed straight away. We had a different problem in that the Taxi firm were semding a different driver every day which out boys couldn't cope with. After speaking to transport and explaining how hard it was the for our boys, they spoke to the taxi firm on our behalf and the Taxi firm have now send the same driver every day. call me jaded Report post Posted November 15, 2005 <'> I've had years of stress-free transport until this year. For us the knock-on effect is my middle two being late for school. My daughter is getting stressed about this. <'>
lil_me Report post Posted November 15, 2005 Hev , as a partner of a taxi driver, contact the LEA. Thats not on. He should be contactable if its by mobile phone or radio. What if something happens when Steve is in the car and he can't contact anyone ? Also you need to speak to the Taxi company and explain how important routine is for your son. The LEA rarely explain the childs condition and how it affects them.
Kazzen161 Report post Posted November 15, 2005 I had four years of this - different drivers, different escorts (because one was very ill), even different cars could be a problem. They would be early some mornigs, late some mornings, sometimes not turn up at all. Before 9 there was no way of contacting either the LEA office or the taxi company. The main two escorts we had were lovely and really liked T - they always ended up being the ones to chase around trying to find out where the taxi was. I remember having to be very careful about what time I woke T up - not too early (else he woudl start some project that he could not leave unfinished) and not too late, as he didn't like being rushed. I'd go to all this trouble and then the taxi woudl be early or late and mess it all up! Now he is in a residential school, it is no longer my problem! Kathryn Report post Posted November 15, 2005 Oh dear, this thread makes my hair stand on end - I hope we aren't going to run into these problems! We've only had one day of the taxi service so far. It does worry me what will happen if the taxi is late - on Monday L just sat and listened to her music till it came. I hope Steve eventually got to school OK hev.
