Brook Report post Posted November 18, 2005 Behavioural Concerns & Autistic Spectrum Disorders. Explanations and Strategies for change. I bought myself this book about a year ago, I have found it so useful, it is not just your average autism book, it really goes behind the behaviour and the reasons it may be occuring, it also suggests really good strategies for helping with behavioural concerns. I took my son out of school at the begining of the year, he was really showing some distressed behaviour, ironically I was reading this book the other day and it explained all the behaviours my son had shown, basically leading to 'breakdown', it also gives strategies to promote positive states of well being. I think this is one book that I will always refer to if I come up against a difficult prob. This is the link to the book. http://www.jkp.com/catalogue/book.php/isbn/1-85302-742-1 Brook

Brook Report post Posted November 23, 2005 Hi Mel-jayne, The book is written by clinical psychologists. I would say it is parent friendly, it is not full of medical jargon but, I would probably say that it would not be the first book to buy for parents of newly diagnosed children, unless of course they have always suspected and have already been obtaining info and have read other books. Alot of books that I have read just touch the surface, but this one really goes further. I personaly think it's a brilliant book, but that's just my opinion, so dont anyone have a go at me if they think they've just wasted fifteen quid Brook
OPooh Report post Posted December 26, 2005 I do My husband bought it - but I come from both parent and hopefully one day professional viewpoints. Have read the beginning but got distracted by reading Luke Jackson's book. Am trying not to read too much of it until after my ds' diagnosis, but what I did read was very good. I dip into the bits that are relevant, but having said that, I've dipped into it alot so I've probably read it all but not in order. Brook
