bid Report post Posted July 1, 2004 Hi All, Has anyone tried homeopathic remedies specifically for acute anxiety? I am not at all anti-meds (see other postings), but both Jester, myself and Auriel's dad are not happy with the medication he is on at the moment (Sertraline) as it is no longer really helping. Only suggestion from consultants is to prescribe Risperidone in addition to Sertraline. None of us are happy with this, and our local pharmacist, who is also a homeopathic practitioner, thinks he might be able to help. The idea is for Auriel to stay on Sertraline while the homeopathic remedies are introduced over the longterm (about a year), and then hopefully gradually come off Sertraline. He also suggested aromatherapy massages to help reduce Auriel's anxiety, which in themselves sound a good idea as A. loves a back massage when he is very agitated anyway. Thanks for any input. Elefan Report post Posted July 8, 2004 Howdi Bid! Bear with me,...I am dashing out just now, but when I get a mo, I will post about my experiences with homeopathy on my little girl. Back soon!! Elefan xx
pookie170 Report post Posted July 8, 2004 Wish I could help you with this Bid. The only thing I have experience that I could comment on would be the massage idea, which I think could be very helpful for Auriel. I know I love 'em!!! Stress busting, worry freeing, blissful carefree half hours of massage!!!! Think I'll give the salon a buzz.......!! Esther x
Elefan Report post Posted July 8, 2004 Back again, bid!! Sorry bout that! Right,..homeopaths,...well, in my experience they are definitely worth trying! We actually turned to a homeopath several years ago, at a time when we were scared to go near the medical profession in case they diagnosed her!! In addition to her worrying 'traits', she had fallen foul to a notifiable disease caught in our local swimming pool!! This disease causes damage to the intestines and is antibiotic resistant. Her system couldn't cope any more, on top of existing allergies, too. The homeopath was wonderful!! She spent hour long regular sessions, delving deep into our little girls history, starting from birth. No stone un-turned. She would need time after each meeting to consider what 'remedy' to come up with. I must admit to thinking it was a load of old tosh initially, but I was desperate! Anything was worth a try. Not everyone is receptive to homeopathy, and I subsequently discovered that my other little girl doesn't respond to it. We were warned that the remedies work by making 'symptoms' worse, before they get better. OMG,..she wasn't kidding! That first evening was pretty awful, however, the next day was amazing. The transformation didn't last too long, but was clear to see. The same process is then repeated after another dose, and so on. The aim is for the 'aggravation' stage to get shorter whilst the windows of improvement last longer. The upshot was that we retrieved out little girl from the mess she was in after having this disease on top of everything else. Her eczema, asthma, and food intollerances improved noticeably. For the first time (and ever since) she has been able to tollerate most foods (but we still mostly avoid dairy) in moderation. I know you are asking specifically about homeopathy for stress/anxety, Bid, but all I can say is that there was no down-side to trying this. The improvements were visible, though we were trying to address her 'traits' and the general collapse of her immune system (rather than anxiety). We credit the homeopath with so much. She bought us time and ultimately became a supporter who contributed correspondence when we finally accepted that we had to seek a medical opinion. Incidentally, many GP surgeries will recommend a particular homeopath, so its worth asking. However, the 'windows' that the remedies gave our little 'un, grew shorter, and she almost seemed to become immune to the positive effects. In essence, they stopped working, but for a couple of years, they really helped. Ironically, our little girl is on Sertraline now, so things have worked out in reverse from you! I would be very interested in knowing how you get on with weaning auriel off the meds and how you find homeopathy. Please keep me posted. Hope you are managing to plough your way through all the parental evidence stuff and that auriel is calmer for his 'time out' from school. Kindest regards, Elefan xx PS I was a convert to homeopathy and the above is only my experience. It didn't work for anyone else in my family though (NT's), but I reckon our ASD children are more 'sensitive' to things like this. Good luck.
bid Report post Posted July 8, 2004 Thanks Elefan! That's really interesting . I was beginning to think I was on board the 'Marie Celeste'!! As far the Statutory Assessment goes, the LEA have agreed to fast-track it , and it went to the Assessment Panel on Tuesday, about 12 days after the paperwork from the school went in! So I had a manic week or so to get my Parental Report together...thank you Helen for keeping me going with your PMs! We heard today that they won't make their decision until they get the EP's report, which is scheduled for July 20th. Some pertinent phone calls this evening by Jester pointing out that this is after the end of term, and the Head of the Assessment Panel rang us to say we should get a phone call tomorrow hopefully to organise an earlier EP assessment. Sigh... Anyway, I also had to get Auriel's specialist college application in this week too, so I have been snowed under with paper work!! I am going to pop into the pharmacy tomorrow and give the homeopath the quite detailed questionnaire he had given me to fill in, plus a medical report about Auriel. I shall then leave it to him to consider things, and hopefully Auriel will soon be able to start the treatment. I have had successful homeopathic treatment in the past myself, and I feel confident that as we are trying to help Auriel's acute anxiety this should hopefully be achievable. It's not as if we are trying to 'cure' the AS per se. I will let you know how we get on. I think it will be worthwhile even if it is only the massage that helps. Also, 'taking charge' of things has made me feel much better!! Have you thought of trying homeopathy again for your daughter to help with anxiety? Thanks again for your info! bid Report post Posted July 11, 2004 Lisa, You'll have to ask Auriel that one as he picked it himself for all his online activities...his real name is much less exotic! He does post here sometimes... Bid

bid Report post Posted August 4, 2004 Hi Auriel had his first aromatherapy massage this evening, and he loved it! So far he has certainly seemed more relaxed this evening, and it will be interesting to see if it helps him fall asleep more easily. Bid
