DD7's SPECIALIST LANGUAGE TEACHER!!!

Still thinks there is something wrong with her eyes!! Even tho she has been tested twice!!She going to put together a list of different opticans that she feels will do a deeper indepth look at DD eye's.

Her LSA doesn't feel that DD is ADHD. I am going to take her off the diet next term!!! She can go back to normal milk and have lots and lots of yoghurts!!!

Spoke to the optican that did DD eye tests she is going to write a letter to the Gp asking for a referral to the hospital. (Hehehe, rubs hands...... better then what the teacher will be able to come up with)

Have spoken to CDC and they are going to try and get an app.

Am going to try and charge the video camera tonight and give it to the school tomorrow so that they can tape her.

Anyone got experience of dyselexia tests?? Aparently they tried her this morning but she was tired. 12 activities in 30 mins ?? does that sound like a proper test to you????

:wallbash::wallbash:

Id be banging my head too.

These so called specialists at times are bloomeing stupid and wont listen.Wont back down even though i guess inside shell know theres nothing wrong with youre childs eyes but is too far in to it now to change her opinion.

For two years some idiot kept insisting my son hes AS was profoundly deaf !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Didnt matter what i said they even insisted he need to be taught sign language and suggested we join a local deaf group.

I kept on telling them he could hear perfectly but had the ability to appear to not hear he could shut you out.

Only when hed had a cochleir test or something that measured brain waves did they say oh yea his hearings perfect perhaps there something else going on.Thickos.

How much money do they waste by not listening to parents.

Unfortunalty ive no experiance of dyslexia tests someone will though.

Good luck youll have great pleasure in the i told yer bloomeing so moment i did.

My youngest son is dyslexic. He was dx with specific learning difficulties aged 6 but dyslexia not specified until he was 8. The tests they do are just like the EP assessment, with some tests added in specific to dyslexia (memorising and recall tests of spellings and phone numbers).

Just to make it a bit more complicated there is also a link to vision and learning. The affect of vision on learning is not to do with whether a child is short or long sighted, it's to do with how the brain processes information. I had Luke assessed by a behavioural optometrist a couple of years ago and he identified that for Luke the words would double on the page. An ordinary optician would not be able to pick this up. As a result of this assessment Luke underwent two courses of vision therapy which made some difference but not enough. The complication of therapy comes from Luke also having ASD. Children with ASD but NOT dyslexia can also have problems with processing visual information and sounds. Which is why their hearing and sight are often blamed.

Ian Jordan, who is a member of this forum is an expert in this field and will be able to explain all this much better than I can.

It is so frustrating when sensory problems are seen as the cause of the problems and not as a result of the problem. Luke would have had his dx much earlier if he hadn't had glue ear, which was blamed for his language delay initially. Many of us have been sent down the rabbit hole of hearing and eye tests before our kids got dx.

Stand your ground, you know your child.
