  1. Hello and welcome to the forum Flora
  2. Hiya Chris, There are variouds therapies available for auditory sensitivities as you describe. Whether they work for everyone or not I couldn't say. My youngest son was extremely sensitive to all different sounds when he was little. He had a full auditory assessment when he was 7 and a long course of sound therapy. This involved listening to a tailored cd (he was assessed every 3 months and the cd changed) for 10 minutes a day for about 18 months! It wasn't a quick fix, but it really did work with him. He was one of these kids that walk round with their hands over their ears all the time, but he never ever does that now. I don't have major problems with this issue, however some voice tones I can't tollerate. For example there is a man who drinks in my local pub with a particular tone to his voice, and it drives me crazy. Even if I'm right at the other end of the pub I can hear his voice and it makes me go all to pieces (it doesn't help that he seems to talk constantly). This rarely happens, but when it does it's awful, so if this is happening to you every day you have my upmost sympathy. If you want any information on the sound therapy I'm happy to pm it to you. 3. Statiticians have proven that birthdays are good for you. Statistically, the more birthdays you cellebrate the longer you live, so it must be true! Flo'
  4. Hi all, Bill travles to his school on Monday mornings, and is returned on Friday afternoons by a taxi. The poor taxi driver has already dealt with Bill throwing up by the side of the road (thankfully only tiny splashes on his leather interior). Today however he came to the door when dropping Bill off and looked really fraught! The poor man had to drive for two hours on motorways in the pouring rain with the passenger window wide open because Bill felt car sick. He was not only frozen and blown sideways by the wind, but the interior of his car is soaken I have not yet used any travel sickness remedies. I'm not sure why I haven't gone down that route, but mainly I suppose that I'm not that comfortable with giving him something that might make him feel drowsy for when he gets to school, and was a bit worried that he might have an adverse reaction (he's never really tollerated this kind of medication). I'm thinking now though, for his sake (he really does come home looking ill, and always has to lie down for an hour when he first arrives at school) and that of the poor driver, that I'm going to have to try something like travel calms or similar. If anyone knows of any good remedies, medication or otherwise, that really does work for severe motion sickness then I'd love to hear about them. (if it's for specific products can you tell me about them in pm please) Many thanks in advance. Flo'
  5. Hi jsmum, Hope things stay settled for you now. <'> I've never had any dealings with SS, but it certainly doesn't sound very helpful! Hope you can get some sleep (says she who is also still awake at half past bonkers in the middle of the night!). Flora XX
  6. Well lisa I hope he gets a place there. What a horrible thing for those kids to do. This sort of thing, especially the mobile phone thing, I would report to the school and if the boys aren't disciplined properly, personally I'd call the police. The thing about these recorded videos on mobile phones they do the rounds with everyone and often end up being posted on some websites. I think this goes way beyond bullying. Good luck with the new school. Will keep everything crossed. Flora

    New Neighbours

Tally I've thought of a great solution if a couple of polite hints/requests doesn't work. Collect the poo in a bag and hand it to the neighbours telling them 'I think this is yours' Flo'
  8. Seems to me like a proud parent wanting to share some nice news with his son'e uncle. Doesn't take much of an IQ (mensa standard or otherwise) to work that out Flora
  9. Congratulations Hope you can enjoy this last few weeks with him now you know when he'll be going! Flora

    hullo :)

Hi Ruby Welcome to the forum My son was out of school for a year from the age of 13 to 14! In April he started at an AS specific special school (after a long battle and tribunal with the LEA). Flora
  11. Hi Sadie, I know what you mean. I've woken up with a migraine before. The first think I notice is that I feel really nauseas, then as soon as I try to lift my head the pain kicks in. Not nice. Flora

    gaaah

I thought I would post an update on this (it occurred to me when I was typing something else this morning that this might be a good idea). If anyone is in any doubt about whether they should be imposing boundaries and not giving in to challenging behaviour then this might help convince them. After the episode described in the start of this thread.... Bill has now become the self appointed 'living room food policeman', making sure that nobody at all eats in there. Quite a turn around from someone who 'left home' over the issue! Flora
  13. Enid, I get the flashing lights before a migraine. Apparently it's called the 'aura'. Flora

    odd socks

Warren, I did the same thing as you with my boys socks. Went out and put a huge batch of identical pairs in black. Trouble is, with washing etc, they are now all different shades of black and I still find myself spending time matching them.... you can't win!!! Flo'
  15. Smiley, no I haven't. I've just discoverd this potential connection while reading up on something else the other day. Is it available on their website or is it a published book (as in book shop?). Flo' edit to add... apolgies to sadie for taking this off topic!
  16. Smiley, it's interesting you say you have Lupus. I've just been doing some reading on ASD and autoimune diseases (of which Lupus is one). Have you ever looked into it? Floz
  17. I get them too. I can go months (sometimes over a year) without having one, then I usually have a spate of them, like once a week for a few weeks, then again a long period without. They trully are horrible and debilitating. I used to take the usual brand of remedy (sounds like migraine and relieve combined) but I've become intollerant to codeine. I've found another one which has only recently been approved for selling over the counter (previously only available on prescription) and you have to get a certificate of the pharmacist after filling out a long form! I've got some ready for my next attack, but I'm quite scared to take them after reading the list of possible side affects, where 'death' is far too high up the list for my liking!!!! Anyway, you really do have my sympathies, because a true migraine is like being tortured. Flora

    Morning all

I haven't ironed for months. I smooth things before hanging them out to dry then smooth them again when they are dry... and that's enough. I also fold and smooth as soon as things come out of the drier and that's even better. If things are likely to be really creased, when they are almost dry I put them in the drier on a 'easy iron' cycle and that does the trick! I used to tie myself in knots over the ironing. I once started using this service where they pick up your clean laundry, iron in, then bring it back. However, the clothes absolutely reeked of stale cigarettes so I'm assuming the person who ironed them had a fag dangling out of the lips the whole time Flo'
  19. Yes, and we can all have a right good guffaw at the irony
  20. Really, I don't know what all the fuss is about! It's just a bunch of scientists trying to justify their existence! One of the blokes who played a small part in building something or other with a blue door.... said the reason why things like this are done are so the 'doing' scientists can say to the 'theoretical scientists'... BOOH sucks.... we've dissed your theory... there's your life's work down the drain Seems a bit childish to me . They should all stop messing around and get themselves a proper job Flozza

    odd socks

Gosh, yes that does happen doesn't it? Without fail. I wonder if there's a way of pretending to throw out the odd sock and trick the missing one into thinking it's safe to come back Flo'
  22. If I'm watching something with Ben he gives me a running commentary 'oh did you see what he just did...he pulled a funny face like this... look... this is what he did....' My standard reply is...'Yes. I. am. watching. it. too' through gritten teeth! Flora
  23. Ooops sorry That could have been embarrassing if asked face to face 'when is your baby due' Flora
  24. Hi Kelly and welcome Flora
  25. No mumble, I'm still very much alive and I'm 100% ALL woman... all be-perfumed, be-jewelled and everything! Either that or there's only two of us left.... Flo'
