  1. Hi That is a good question. I would look at the individual toy as to whether you thought it is suitable rather than what it says on the box. I have known toy aimed at 5yr who even I would have trouble with. (That's not saying much). And we all know that the old favorites get played with no matter what age the are aimed at. I'm told that the Orchard Toys range are good in that 5+ would be suitable for a wide age range.
  2. Hi Owe son (Now 8 with AS) had speech problems and went to speech therapy aged about 3. he was only just speaking by the time he started school. He had other problems which were all looked at in isolation and it was not until he was 7 that any question of ASD was asked. Having recently moved to a new council area we now realise how poor the services were where we lived before. Keep raising your concerns with anyone that will listen. Good luck.
  3. Hi there Yep, My son (now 8 with AS) was/is just the same. At one point he would say he was lonely at school. Would just wonder round the playground on his own. Teacher told us this. They did try to get him to join in, got a couple of the children to try to include him. It did not work at the time but thing did get better. Now at his new school (we moved) the teacher seems aware that this may be a problem and has said that he seems to be joining in with the others at brake time a lot of the time and that has made special friends. And according to the teacher the other children will spontaneously help him if they think he needs it. It is that type of school. He still says nothing at home about his "friends" at school so we don't really know. When we are out and about we get other children calling out "Hallo A". and when asked it will be someone from school. But that is as good as it gets. He has no friends away from school and dose not seem at all interested in having any.Tyred clubs etc but that did not work so he just spends most of his time on his own with my,( His mum will do if I'm not around [that is the way A sees it]).

    school records??

Hi Suze The records should have followed him on to secondary school. When you leave school, the school holds your records until they are requested by others( your self etc) or until you are 25 at which time they are destroyed. This information was supplied by Gloucestershire council. Assume other councils have similar arrangements.

    Gas and electric

Gas and electric meters are changed every 20 or so years. I have always checked the readings on the GAS, ELECTRIC and WATER meters. It surprises me that others don't do the same. By and large the readings have always been correct. The few times it has been wrong I have had no trouble getting things put right. When we moved earlier this year it did take about 3 months to convince B.G. how where not my supplier that I no longer lived at my old address and I did not want a card meter there, why would I as I don't live there and I have never had a card meter from any one and never asked for one. They even started sending my letters about the card meter I had? at my old address to my new address, along with the card to use with it. Hope your following this. I contacted Head of complaints at B.G. and its been 3 weeks now and not heard anything so maybe there now have the message. But we will see. One of my dads obsessions was writing down the meter readings every day. When he died my mother found all the utility bills going back over 30 years.
  6. Here, Now this is what I have read on the council site, If you have worked as a TA for 2 years or more you are entitled to redundancy pay, but schools are obliged to redeploy you if there is a suitable job, no matter what the terms of your contract.

    School meeting

Went to see "A" teacher and SENCO today. A has only just started at the school. We moved from different council area and things here are done very differently to where we used to live. Where we live before they were very good on doing reports but they never seemed to lead to anything. We did get a diagnosis earlier this year of ASD, before we moved but then it all ground to a halt. Anyway SENCO is hoping that with all these reports we have on A, we will be able to use them to get the statement sort. Seeing someone tomorrow to see about this. The school are really supported in this. His teacher and the head are very keen to get him the extra support he needs. Lets hope it don't take to long.
  9. We had the opposite situating. At my sons new school. At break times they line up but in the morning it is a free for all. To start with I would wait with A and go right into the classroom with him. The head emailed my to tell me that I could do this for as long as A needed the support. After a few weeks A would go in on his own and with practice we get to school just as the rush is over. A likes to line up as it gives him the sense of order.
  10. I can remember (well almost) when you had 4 deliveries a day , you could post a letter in the morning and it would be delivered the same day. Before Phones, if you were going to be late home from work you could send a letter to tell your family and it would got there before you got home. And it only cost 1d. The good old days.
  11. Always use law fat sausages. Don't like spicy one. Nearly always grill them, never had any catch fire??. The ones in cafes and the like are done in a deep fat fryer.
