  1. Hi Longmeadow Snap. Just what my son dose. When he was little it was a real job to get him to eat, he would be crying with "tummy ache" but refuse to eat anything. Now luckily we have manage to convince him that if he has a tummy ache if he eats something it will go away. That works most of the time. But the draw back is that when he really does have a tummy ache and he eats something, Well I let you imagine the rest. Its only been recently the A has really started to use a Knife and folk properly. He would, still dose sometimes resort to using his fingers, bit messy things like baked beans. He just found it easier than trying to manipulate the k&f. On the theme of food they must have been doing something about health eating at school. A announced that he was only going to eat fruit and vegetables between meals. What, I said, no biscuits or sweets, had a think about that, then said "Only fruit and vegetables and biscuits and sweets". Chris.
  2. Hi Yes it sounds like it to me.My 8 year old son who is diagnosed ASD/AS has most of the thing you describe. I would defiantly speak to the school about this. It is possible that they are missing the bigger picture because of her dyslexia. To start with that is what was happening to my son.The bigger picture that is not the dyslexia. Good Luck Chris.
  3. Hi JsMum Sorry if I upset you .I was not defending the system but the people who have to in work it. Unless, until we as a society realize that more resources are need, situations like your will continue. My point was that the DO had nothing to offer you.
  4. I would ask the teacher for an explanation. It could be that the "new " teacher is setting every one some basic work to see how they get on, if anyone needs help to catch up. Don't jump to conclusions to quickly. Ask your self, how did your daughter get on doing this home work. That will give you some of the answers. Chris.
  5. How old is Bill. I used to get travel sickness as a young child. I'm told that if you (HE) looks out of the car at what is going on outside and not at the interior of the car then the symptoms will be less or non existent. Something to do with the mind and body getting out of sink.(The inner ear). Speak to the pharmacist to see what they have to say or go to the GP, he will be able to give you something. Chris.
  6. Hi My wife has been there. She has a mild physical disabilities. Spent 3 years going on this course then that course all with a promise that they would lead to a job .Did they did they heck. Still looking 4 years later. Good luck. Chris.
  7. Hi Just to confuse every one .In the UK a "Public school" is in fact a fee paying private school. If you go onto the Direct.gov.uk web site and follow the links to school it should be helpful. From there you can link to local council sites and find what school are in the area were they live. From the government site you can find all the school withing an area you select. Link to them and look up the most resent OFSTED report and sometime all sorts of other info on the school. The first thing I would do is explore the government site, it would help if you have the post code of were they live. That is what we did when me moved from the south to the midlands. If she is 13 then she will go into a class with children of her own age. And should be given the help if any she need to catch up. In theory as we start school at a young age we , in the UK, are ahead of the u.s. but I doubt that in general term there is much difference at 13, other than subject pacific. Also if there is a place available then she will be able to start school as soon as she moves. We moved in on saturday and our son started school on the Monday. He has ASD/AS is 8 and we moved in June. <'> What happens is that once you have selected a school with a space, you contact the school direct and take it from there. There is no reason why you should not be able to line up a school before she moves. We did. And we did not tell the school about our sons problems until they had offered him a place. The reason for this is that when we first contacted the school we had not received an official diagnosis. This is a bit rambling but then it has been a long day. Good luck . Chris.
  8. Hi The problem you have with the SS is that the duty team are there only to respond to real life or death situations and do not have the resources to do much for "minor" problems. The DO is there to advise, coordinate and as a point of contact raver than to do anything more. I this case it sounds like what he should have done was call out the duty GP who, if needed could have called on other resources. No I don't work for SS, just thought I would come to their defence. Chris.
  9. Hi there Sounds a bit like my sons story. Late talker, at preschool spent most his time on his own. Not a good start in reception year, refused to use the toilets which as you can imagine led to a few problems, which detracted attention away from other problems he had. He was always liked by the teachers , did not misbehave, ever! But there again he went unnoticed, if you know what I mean. Not a good start in year 1 "TEACHER" .But then she went on maternity leave and new teacher got things under way.It did take about 2 years of seeing this person and that person but finally Early this year we got a diagnosis of ASD Presenting as AS. But to complicate things we have since moved to a different area and so now his new school has got to sort out what support they can get for him. His new school seems to be on the ball and have already been giving him some 1 to 1, and keep us well informed. email what would we do without it. I have the email address for half the staff at the school new so if I want now anything or tell them something its just a click away. Also have a school home message book. We have a meeting with his teacher and the SENCO planed for the week after next when hopefully will have a better idea of what is what.. By the way A is 8 years old. Yes it is easy to ramble on and on about things but I think it does you a bit of good to talk about things now and then. Bye Bye Chris

    my son, 21

Hi Owl Take it from me that I don't expect there is one person at the firm were your son works that has not at some time helped themselves to something that thy shouldn't have. Yes he has got court with his hand in the till, but his/his dads work mates wont if they are honest judge him to hard, as I said "There for the grace of god go I". I know he won't want any one to know about his problems and I don't know what industry your son works in but he is obviously able to do the job ok and to some extent is accepted, I can't help but think that if a few people in top management know it would help him. In my experience often managers in bigger organizations tend to look on younger employees in the same way as they would their own children and make allowances for their stupidity. If the management are giving him a second chance then take it get on with life and put this down to experience. Good luck and try not to worry. Chris.
