  2. Thank you Lauren, Kathryn, Pink Sapphire Angel, Helen 1980, Mothereve, Lisa and Karen A Thank you all for your brilliant advice I am sorry it has taken so long to post and say thank you but I had started writing it and stopped for a while and then hubby got on the computer and turned it off with my post but I forgot that i hadn't actually sent it so I am so sorry for the delay in thanking you for your brilliant advice. Thanks for helping me to decide I am going to appeal now. Thanks again. Kathy
  3. Hi Please could someone advise me: My son was diagnosed with ASD in March about a week after this he was excluded from school for two days it was at this point we decided to apply for a statement this has been refused at present because: The school hadn't done enough basically: No IEP until after he was excluded in March ( he is in reception and started school in September where his teacher picked up on problems and he was referred) No Social stories No Visual timetables and no sand timers. These have no all been put in place and the LEA are saying that once the visual timetables, sand timers and social stories are in use his behaviour wil improve and that is why they are turning down the statement. My question is this: Is it best to just appeal to Sendist ( The LEA said there still wouldn't be enough evidence for a statement) Leave it a while so there is more evidence and then reapply for the statement. If you appeal and its turned down is it the end of the road or could you still apply for a statement again. Just not sure what is for the best at the moment they are going to be sending The Autistc specialist (I think its called team in but not until September because they are short on staff ) Thanks in advance Kathy
  4. Liz Thanks for telling us about a successful social story its great to hear they can work so well. Ds SALT is going into school this week to teach them how to give Ds social stories so fingers crossed they will work as well as yours did. Thanks again. Kathy

  9. Oh Lauren I am so sorry what is it with so many schools that they have a problem understanding the needs of our children Its so frustrating that you have to spend this holiday waiting to sort it out with them but at least you have the time before him going back to seek outside help. Good luck and i am so sorry your son had to go through all this and like you I wouldn't have pulled him out of the service. Hope you get it all sorted and it all gets much better for him . Kathy
  10. Hi Loulou, Is everything sorted out for your son now, does he get enough help and are you still at the same school. My son has been accused of attacking the little girl for no reason but he said she was in the way of the board (they were writing copying from the board) and that he told the teacher and then went round and pushed her head down to get it out of the way it really didn't need to have happened if his teacher had listened to him I am disappointed because up until the other day I would have said she was really supportive His school now seem to have the view that he choses to do what he does and that it is separate from his ASD but i think all the things that have happened have a good explanation but they are now thinking its just bad behavour for no real reason grrrrrrrrrr Oh well at least I know where I stand now. Kathy
  11. Thank you phasmid yes I will definitely do that best to cover all angles e.g Senco and Inclusion officer great idea that I wouldn't of thought to do . Thanks Jen it takes forever doesn't it 6 months thats the next year up already. Kathy
  12. Thanks Zemanski thats brilliant advice I will get onto that now, my senco is about as useful as yours was I don't even know who she is and she has given me no information at all which was especailly important in the early stages when I didn't really know what was happening. Thanks again Zemanski. Thank you Suze I have done it but I am going to be applying for the statement is that the best and quickest way to do it? Thanks all for your brilliant help Kathy
  13. You've already been given some good advice, so I just wanted to let you know that you're not alone having your child excluded <'> . Thanks Annie that made me feel much better. K
  14. Hi madme, Thanks for the info on Ipsea and Nas theres really good info on there, sadly it seems his school doesn't really understand him (ASD) and this is causing problems that could be avoided I think I will probably be in the same boat and have to move to a more understanding school. I must join a local support group its a great idea like here people that really understand. I am glad that after years of struggling your son is now reasonably happy proves you made the right decision . Thanks for all your help and I am onto that ipsea website for the statement info. Thanks again. K
  15. Thanks Phasmid they only know his dx through me but not officially yet they said it will take about four weeks to type up then they will send it to the school. One good thing I have spoken to my son asking why he pushed her head onto the table he said because he couldn't see, he was pushing her head down and out of the way an example of them not really understanding the ASD I suppose.(they said he just attacked her for no reason ) Headmaster said he would be sending us a letter tomorrow so he has covered his bases there he wants us to go in and see him so we will be doing that very soon. I asked two weeks ago if he had an IEP and he doesn't even have one I was hoping with the dx he would get one and go onto School action plus but maybe they are waiting for the written dx. Thanks for all your help Phasmid and your words of hope and thank goodness for this forum. K
  16. My son started full time school in September (he was 5 in that month) he has been assesed which resulted in a Dx on friday of ASD the SALT said she would come into school and observe for half hour at some point to help DS work out stratergies to stop him pushing people if they touch him and barging. Today I had a call from his Headmaster to say he is to be excluded for two days because he had grabbed a pupils head and banged it onto the desk he said she was in the way . He is on school action and we were hoping for him to be getting more help after the dx as at the moment he is only getting half an hour one to one and and an hour group session. What usually happens after an exclusion does it usually mean the school cant cope and its the start of a long line of exclusions. They seem to think it might help him but he is happy he doesn't care if he stays at home its easier than school. I cant believe it after all the waiting for the Dx and hoping that he would get the extra help and its just come to this anyone got any advice at all. Do I need to be looking at different schools because they cant cope and he would be better off. Any advice gratefully received I am in total shock. K
  17. Yes my eldest did but not badly enough to need the light therapy he had it for a few days (if Iremember rightly it was a long time ago now) Kathy
  18. Don't know if this is possible for your son to have his own safe space in infants due to the size of the class room, but it maybe something to be considered later on. Thanks kevilou they did suggest a space for him but it was decided that he wouldn't take himself there unfortunately he seems to like being with all the other children just doesn't like them touching him at all but like you say for when he gets older it sounds like a great idea thanks. Great thanks kirstie well thats great I had heard of them before but just wasn't sure how they worked or how many times so thats brillliant thanks very much. Kathy
  19. Hi Wendywoo, Sorry cant really help with your question as my son is only in Reception but Just to say good luck and I really hope it will be an obvious choice at the end for you once you have had a look around the schools. Lots of luck. Kathy
  20. CarerQuie Yes I will try both and we are going to get a squeezy stress ball today does it usually take quite a while for the social stories to sink in and do you need to keep repeating them or is its something you only do the once(with each situation) and then it gradually sinks in? Thanks vey much. Kathy
  21. Thanks Brook no the Dx wasn't really a shock although I think I am still in shock generally anyway we didn't realise there was any probs until September when he started school but thanks for the hugs. Thanks also for all the ideas they give me more than one option which is great. Thanks Mothereve the SALT is going to come in the holidays and discuss Social Stories so fingers crossed she can come up with one and thanks for all your suggestions as well I will have a little chat with school and see if they can help thank you so much. KirstieI love the idea of a feely box and I will try the deep pressure therapy and I am getting onto Amazon next too order those books thats brilliant thanks.
  22. Hi Its me again asking for advice again today we at last had a dx for my ds they say he is ASD and have given us some advice. At school when children accidently touch him he pushes them really hard the drs who assessed him said we need Stratergies for him to deal with this, telling him not to do it wont work but telling him what to do will. The only problem is they won't be seeing us for another month so has anyone any ideas of what to tell him to do instead of hitting out, putting his hands in his pockets was one but he said no to this I want to get him in the habit of doing something other than hitting as this has upset a lot of the mums and children at his school. Any other ideas for stopping the hitting/pushing when someone even slightly touches him would be gratefully received. Thanks cant wait for your answers. Kathy.
  23. That brilliant such great news. Take care Kathy
