  4. Hi Kathryn, Thank you for your prompt reply. Yes, Ben is on School Action Plus. The school did promise to implement the EP's suggestions but we are now 3 weeks into the new academic year but, I haven't heard anything. I am going to write to the school SENCO as she has not responded to the messages I left at the school office. If past events are anything to go by, the school will do nothing. I even wrote a letter to the SENCO with a copy to the head teacher last term but nothing came out of it. I honestly think the best option for Ben is to be statemented. Apart from teaching him at home, he also attends after school Kumon (maths and English) twice a week. This is all too much for the him. My dilemma is, do I leave him to sink for them to realise the severity of his problem or continue helping him academically? My choice will be for him to get most of the academic help at school and spend his time outside school to build up his social and other skills. I will start gathering all the evidences you've suggested. Thanks, bensm
  5. Hi Lisa et al, Although I live in th borough of Greenwich my ds, who has been diagnosed with ASD, attends a mainstream school in nearby borough. I applied for statutory assessement but it was rejected on the grounds that the school can cater for his needs. The school are not giving him the support he needs and all the SENCO says is that they are happy with his progress. His last SATS result in year 4 were below average and he has not made much progress for the past 2 years. I really want to re-apply for him to be statutory assessed on educational grounds and complex needs, but I do not know where to start. He was observed briefly be the school's EP at the end of last term and although he made some useful suggestions as to how the school can help my ds, I cannot see the school actually implementing it and to be honest, I think what my ds needs is 1-to-1 support in class; although the SENCO at school disagrees with me. The little progress that he's made is due to the fact that I tutor him at home, but he is understandably, getting fed up with doing a lot more work at home when he's just done a day at school. I do not know where to start as I feel both the school and the council seem to be working against me. I want to employ a private EP , but I am not sure if this is the best route. . Please help !
