  1. Hi kms Have you read any of Liane Halliday Willey's books, you may relate to her & they are v encouraging, Pretending to be Normal is her 1st I think xx
  2. If he was its the first I've heard about it. I cant imagine a Nazi championing disabled people as he did. He is one of my heroes.
  3. Thanks bikergal, claire & j's mum. Went to Study Support today to discuss the report, they had the tissues ready! Have got it in perspective now & seen there are lots of good things in there now so trying to stay positive. Also rang SS about mum, they have a lockable pill box attached to a call centre, so looks like that might be the answer. So all in all a better day Thanks again you're all lovely <'>
  4. (((Kate))) just wanted to give you a hug, I cant believe these sorts of things are still happening. J was rejected by cubs 11 years ago, they wouldnt even let him try, a few years later our local Barnardo's project started one up for disabled kids but too late for J, anyway like you said its to help pick up social skills so better to integrate where possible. Hope things work out xx
  5. Aah, thanks J's mum (from another J's mum ) Just a bit tired & emotional tonight & mr pearl isnt much help as he's a bit spectrumy himself & goes like Eeyore when theres bad news. What is Carers Support (dont answer now if you're off to bed) I get the NAS email & may get in touch with Prospects, he's had so much help all his life its really scary to think of him going it alone if he gets a job, without me there to explain him! HE would be easier as he'd get help, but we are keeping our options open at the mo, he's applying for IT apprenticeships etc with college in Sep if he doesnt get anything by then. Thanks again, night night xx
  6. Good for you, best of luck with it.
  7. My son J (17, Aspergers) came home from college clutching his ed psych report ready for HE in September. He was v upset & so was I when I read it. I know they have to lay it on thick so he'll qualify for DSA, but its also accurate & its a long time since we had one of these - bit of a reality check. He's in the bottom 2% for processing speed - in other words, he's very, very slow at doing stuff. He (and we) have modest ambitions but they do include him getting a job at some point, now I'm wondering what job he could possibly do that involves working at a snails pace. I'm aware that some of you have much much greater problems on here, but when you are "almost" normal like J it brings problems of its own. To finish off a perfect day I went to my mums who I am caring for, thought we'd cracked it with the pill box but she'd had half of todays pills then broken into Fridays box & had some of them too, bliddy hell. Fingers crossed the SS lady will come up with some solutions when she assesses her next week. Sorry - just needed to vent.

    New

Welcome Alexandra from another Newbie. Its nice here.
  9. My OH's entire family are on the spectrum! His dad showed definite traits as did his uncle, & of his 5 brothers & sisters all are what you would call autistic "cousins" - traits but not the full blown thing. His sister is the most obvious, a complete one-off who self-diagnosed after our son was. She has also married someone on the spectrum & they are soul mates. Theres never a dull moment on family holidays! Mr pearl is obsessed with music & spoken radio programmes, every radio, cd player etc in our house is attached to a timer & recording equipment so he doesnt miss anything. He listens to everything on his walkman as he walks to work. He's getting into digital & ipods now so god help us. He also videos programmes & keeps a list so we know where we are up to, actually v useful as I could never be so organised. Luckily we mostly like the same tv programmes. We do laugh about it most of the time, but when both he & J are being particularly obsessive, I think, I just hate living with autistic boys!

    Warm Front grants

We got our loft insulated & cavity walls done for free, but we didnt qualify for central heating/boiler as J is not the householder. So why did we qualify for the first lot? Its like Kafka innit.
  11. Thankyou Debbie, I've been worrying about this as my lad is 17, it helps to know theres a way round this
  12. Well I've obviously joined this forum at just the right time then.... J my son is 17 so we're going through stuff like grown up parties, applying for jobs/HE etc, so this is probably where I should be mostly.
