  1. Although i cant give you any advice i am interested in what you are saying. My son complains about his legs aching when he walks. i mentioned it to his paed. She checked him out and said his legs seemed fine and that they were hyperflexed of something like that. I asked her why he complained and she said he was just being lazy and didn't want to walk What symptoms did your son have when he was younger ? Karen
  2. Thanks for that, unfortunatley he is still bad with his reading. but maybe i can get one and read it to him
  3. My Asp soon to be 7yr old has overhead conversations i have had and has now asked me what aspergers is. How do i explain it to him without him thinking he is different. I am also worried that he may use it to his advantage and use asp as his excuse to be naughty etc. Have you told your children they have asp and how did you tell them
  4. HI I know when your child is receiving DLA you can get free cinema passes, passes to theme parks so they dont have to queue etc. Does anyone have any info on these types of things. Someone did give me some details before but i cant find them. Thanks Karen
  5. I just got a letter with everyones assesment details, it only really outlined what i already knew from them before. It didn't give me any details on a plan of action etc, which did dissapoint me a bit.
  6. HI Pippin and Sams Mum Thank you for your replys i understand your views, but i am not talking about an animal his behaviour is not too bad. I explained to the leader that he has mild asp and the onlytime she will really encounter a problem is if they play games where children are excluded ( ie musical bumps type games). I did help about 10 yrs ago at my older sons Beaver group as it was going to close down so i stepped in with another mum and ran the group for 6mnths so i know what the boys do when they attend. I know my son would cope well. She wouldnt even give him the oppurtunity to go along for a couple weeks trial. I think this was unfair. I know asp children have a label but they are still individuals with individual needs. I am a childrens entertainer and come across children with different needs and some that do not know how to behave but that is part of my job. I also ran my own Baton twirling troup with 30 girls and no helper so i do understand the pressure on the leaders of the brownies and cubs. well done to you both for running your groups without parents like yourselves these groups would have to close.
  7. Sorry i misunderstood what you said. It is a good idea to give them the chill out space they need.
  8. I am not sure this idea would work with the older children as they may feel excluded from the rest of the children. I usually try and encourage all children to do the same things. If i know there are children with asp add adhd etc i try to get them to help me if we play exclusion type games such as statues etc. or i do not play getting out games. Obviously if they are affected by the noise issue this would be a different matter. It would be nice to hear from everyone about how your children react at parties and what you do to deal with the problems before they occur. This would help me to offer parents a better service. I do have many repeat customers on my books who have chlldren wit autism and aspergers and i usually find out the boundaries when they book, this way i can adpat my parties to suit the childs needs. Karen
  9. Have emailed the Kent head office and will let you all know what response i get. Thank you for all your help Can anyone suggest any other activities clubs that he could join, i live in a village and there is not alot going on but there maybe other things in the town. Karen
  10. No I don't think there is, i am going to try other scout groups and see if i get a different response. How are children like ours meant to learn to deal better with social interaction if they are not given the oppurtunity its disgusting.
  11. Thanks that is a great help X
  12. HI i am currently working on a new website for parents. I am looking to add information and advice on all aspects of a childrens party. I am a childrens entertainer with nearly 9 yrs experience and have started selling party products aswell. Although i am a business i would like to offer parents advice that they may not have be able to find elsewhere. Pages we are adding include Hall Hire entertainers catering party products childrens wedding entertainment hints an tips for a succesful party I am looking for ideas, if you have had problems in the past finding info or have any ideas please let me know. I am also thinking of adding a page for special needs childrens parties. Obviously i only have my own personal experinces with my own son and other parties i have run. But there are many special needs i am unfamiliar with. Thanks in advance for your help Karen
  13. I think we have all been in this situation, we can only hold back for so long before we have to Blow. She is happy now so don't be so hard on yourself. I think it is only natural we are all human after all.
  14. He actually fell asleep tonight by 9.30pm, my evening has been so peaceful. I gave him a shower then read a book, i also gave him some piriton as it can make you drousy ( but naughty i know). Not sure why he fell asleep but its worked lol OH NO peace shattered my 17yr old and his girlfriend just walked in
  15. Thanks everyone for you replys, i am pleased you agree with me, i am going to email and see what response i get. I explained to her that he only has mild asp and that the only problems they would encounter would be his bad sportsmanship. I think he interacts with others fairly well. He can get a bit over excited at times. Her attitude was i know all about asp and there are only 2 leaders so we would not be able to cope. She was very negative with me B**CH
  16. Have decided to book my son into some clubs as he is now getting his DLA and thought it only fair that he gets something out of it. I telephoned the scout group to see if they had any spaces and what nights etc. She said they do have a space and to come a week Wed as school hols nxt week. I thought it only fair to mention that he has aspergers, you would of thought i had said he had a contageous life threatning illness. She said that they all ready have one aspergers child and can't cope with another one. I am mortified i really didn't expect that reaction. I am an honest person and did not want to take him along and them think he is a naughty spoilt brat. Maybe the next people i telephone i should't mention it to them. what do you all think is it best to be honest or not ?
  17. I am pleased i am not the only one going through this, i think i may make and app for the gp and see if i can get something to assist him sleeping. I try to get him to bed at a similar time at weekends. I have taken his playstation away tonight and have told him everyday he gets up late and is not at school on time i will keep the playstation, fingers crossed it will work. I to dress him most mornings, he is 7 in a months time its a nightmare, i am sure his friends would laugh at him if they new. Thanks for your comments
  18. HI My nearly 7yr old asp son is getting worse with his sleeping, i put him to bed about 8pm but he doesnt get to sleep until the very earliest 10.30. Last night he was still awake at 11.30pm. Of course i couldn't get him up for school this morning and as a result he is off school.

  21. Hi Sam I can sympathise with you, my son is exactly the same, everytime he plays on his ps2 or ds i get mum can you read this mum can you read that it is so frustrating. You let them play on games expecting to be able to get on with stuff at home but you spend your whole time ready the information on games, which doesn't even make any sense.
  22. Hi I don't know too much about them but my sons have had both, if you can afford the ds i would buy them for them. They are the newer model and most of the new games they bring out are for the ds. You can use the advance games on the ds aswell. Also with the ds they have built in Wi fi or something like that so they can compete against each other using thier own ds lites. If they have friends with ds lites they can also play against each other.
  23. Hi My son has been recently diagnosed with Asperegers, i didn't pick up on it that much myself, it was his school that noticed it. Your son does sound very similar to mine. I would look into to it. My son is the same age but has reading difficulty. The teachers actually reffered him to someone and gave me a letter to take to my GP. Try and make an appointment to discuss your son with the schools senco, maybe he /she can help. Good luck
