Dearest Nels,
I am so sad that you have decided now is the time to step down.
I feel really bad for not playing a bigger role on the forum, but I know you know why that is. Most of all, I know you understand. <'>
Lufty and I are unable to do very much of anything at the moment, because my little one is at home full time now it seems. As usual for this time of year,..there is no 'evening' for us in which to catch up on 'stuff' either.
That said,. .you are long over-due some 'me time' and I hope you will have some thoroughly indulgent days shared with your family.
There will always be a place for you here,...and you only have to say,....
And,..THANK YOU,..for EVERYTHING!!!
Love

Simon,
I am so sorry to come to this post a couple of days late.
I remember when you got the diagnosis for your Mum and how you worried about preparing your family.
My thoughts are with you all.
Take all the time you need.

Sorry to be a pain,..but I can't find something I am sure exists already here! If a child is off school (as a result of their ASD or anxiteties related to it), without the consent of the school or parents,..I am sure there is a time limit of 3 weeks or something, wherupon they could fall into the Home and Hospital education system?
Please can someone sign-post me to the appropriate legal documentation on the LEA's responsibilities? I seem to recall something about 5 hrs tutor a week, etc, until normal schooling resumes.
She does not have a statement.
Cheers,
Elefan

Hi Annie,
Thanks for your reply.
I wish I could say I was keeping her off school,..but I am trying everything to get her there!! Nothing works,..and forcing her just brings about a rage.
I look forward to hearing if anyone has had a 'part-time' part-time scenario written into a statement!!
Hope you and yours are doing well.

A topic close to my heart!
Hello everyone,..long time no post!!
I was hoping that after moving house, school, LEA, last summer, that some sort of miracle from a fresh start would happen.
The school have been fantastic and if ever there was a school setting that could help her, this is it! However, in line with every other winter,..the school refusal phase is here. She is consummed by her anxieties,..and worries endlessly about secondary, homework, etc. She is only 10, but if she wasn't worrying about those things, it would be something else. She rages and refuses school in the winter,..something that is acknowledged by everyone we see.
She has weekly psychology sessions. She is also due to meet with the ASD unit leader at the secondary school. She is not statemented,..been through the stat assess (with last LEA) and got a 'note in lieu'. Long story,..some of you know it.
Anyway, what I am asking is whether anyone has heard of a statement that specifically relates to part-time schooling for particular parts of the year, perhaps where seasonal variations exist? She is still way too clever (yr6, when she should be in yr5), so it is can't be said she is falling behind. She has now been placed back into yr 5 for numeracy in response to her concerns (not as a result of falling ability).
I had an awful experience with the EWO of the last LEA, so I am reluctant to involve them directly myself. I know they will become involved soon as she has not been to school since the start of the new term. I honestly don't know how much longer I can cope with the uncertainty of what is going to happen next. I know you will all relate to this,...
Should I give in and home educate? She seems to want this, but with her ODD on top of ASD, she will not last long before she digs her heels in!
Tracey,...good luck!!!!! <'>

Hi,
Has anyone tried light boxes for where there is strong seasonal behaviours, worse in winter? I would be interested to know of anyone's experiences.
Many thanks,

Lisa,
Fantastic news.
I seem to recall that a couple of years ago we were going through the same battles for a statement.
I am so pleased that you have finally got the news you all deserve.
As for me, I gave up on believing we could get a statement, so have moved house, school, LA, everything,...this summer!! Desperate times, desperate measures!
I hope the statement has everything you asked for.
Kindest regards,

Nels,
Kris would have loved to have helped, but after his own computer crashed because of the hacker, it was over to Lufty!!
LOL,,,if it can happen to an IT genius, it can happen to anyone, I suppose!
Kris' computer is well now though, too! Don't know how you both manage this IT malarky!! Waaaaaaaaaayyy beyond me!!

I'll keep going, if you will. <'>
Flutter,...I am racking my brains here, too. The one thing I do know, is that I am not alone and neither are you.
If you get a chance to have a moment to yourself this week, turn the music right up and sing your heart out!! I can't sing,...but it's working for me at this moment!

Hi,
I have been giving a lot to the subject of siblings, as well as to the resources that should be available for younger people with ASD. Thank you to those of you who have helped provide a link for Patrick W.
The forum was set up to help anybody, but I am aware that there are very specific needs also for siblings within families that are touched by ASD.
Having fallen foul of a postcode lottery regarding respite, etc,...I would love to go on from this forum to create something just for them. Not sure what yet,...but give me time. Rome wasn't built in a day!
Just thinking out aloud,...

Hi Flutter,
I really hope you can find the connection soon.
I am still dealing with people seperating the home traits from the school traits. If she is bad at home,...it must be a home problem,..or so they keep trying to suggest!!
Good luck.

This post has been dormant for a very long time, but I would be interested to see what posts it receives from the wide member base the forum has nowadays.
What happens when the passive child who has meltdowns at home, reaches the stage where they cannot inhibit anymore and refuse to go to school at all!? Does the LEA 'wake up' to the problem then!?
Kindest regards,
Elefan

Thanks Viper, et al! <'>
Difficult times (which you will all understand),....but really appreciate your post.
It has been invaluable to have a 'rest', whilst the mods do a brilliant job. I am chief tea brewer for Lufty and Kris as they work to keep the forum functioning under the weight of postings!!
Anyone would think there had been a need for somewhere like this!
