    steves first day

steve had his first day at new school yesterday and he loved it,im so happy. he came home well excited, hes made a friend and when i asked him if he liked the school he gave it an 8 out of 10 which is a big honour for steven!!as you know i havent coped with steve being at home all day but im so glad i stuck to my guns and didnt let the LEA fob me off with their choice of schools which i knew wouldnt be suitable for steve,i found the pressure of it all awful but to anyone going through it now i would say keep on fighting as you will get there in the end,i dont understand why we have to battle so much though, thanks to everyone on this site who has replied to my constant moaning for 14 months!!
  5. hello kirstie im so pleased for you both, its brilliant news. my steves just got into a good school, its like winning the lottery,so pleased for you.

    residential care

i post on here for my friend a lot who has trouble coping with her son and social services havent helped at all so she has decided the best thing for danny is for him to go to residential care, shes been crying all weekend and phoned me now,how do you go about it?do you have to see a social worker and is it a battle for the LEA to agree?is it the LEA who deals with it?its not a desicion she has taken lightly but its the only one she can think of as social services visited her 3 weeks ago as an emergency as she was self harming but they only phoned her yesterday to say a report needs to be signed by the manager, whatever that means,is there someone higher we can go to as shes desperate for help but i dont know what to do thanks
  7. i feel like locking barrie in a room as i find him too offensive to be out on the streets, lets hope then for barries sake he never has an autistic grandchild /niece/nephew,i pity the poor child if he does, their comments were terrible.
  8. went and had a look at a lovely school today, theres 36 pupils there and steve liked it so hes starting on the 10th june, one day a week first of all then in september full time,im so happy!its been 13 months of hell to be honest having him off school and the teachers at the new school are so lovely i feel like its all been worth it,he has his other activities for the rest of the week so hes glad about that still,im still amazed that the LEA were so awful and it was when i got my MP involved that they took any notice but hopefully my battle is over now,it was a war zone in here as well most of the time!
  9. i live in gravesend in knt,i have terrible LEA!

    tribunal

good luck to you and mike,i havent been to any tribunals but i have an awful LEA in kent so we have that in common!!hope all goes well on wednesday
  11. steve just got another 3 hours tuition,i got letter on friday so that makes a total of 10 hrs a week, the headmaster of the AS school is coming to see me on thursday to see if his school is suitable for steve so its been a week with a lot of good changes,i feel like things are getting better, the good thing is he really likes his tutor.
  12. i totally agree with carole, that brought a lump to my throat because thats exactly how i feel.
  13. hello tez i took steve out of school at year 6 in primary school,i wish i had done it a long time before that but i believed the school knew best,i realise now no one knows steve better than me,he has asp/adhd and he never got 1;1 help and in the end it got too much for him, looking back i should have got a docs letter to say he was suffering from stress but i never sent him back when the teachers started bringing him home for his own safety. it hasent been an easy 11 months having him home all the time, its been terrible some days but im still glad i took him out of mainstream,i know what a dillema it is to know what to do for the best,i really feel for you as its awful isent it,they are our babies really arent they, steve should be starting at a school for asp children soon hopefully, whatever you decide i am thinking of you as its all a worry. take care love hev x
  14. i phoned up school today and the head is coming to see me on 6 may,he sounds lovely and sounds very positive about having steve there,im so excited!!ROLL ON THE 6TH MAY!!!!
  15. thanks for crossing your fingers!its a day placement not residential,i cant wait til monday to make that call!is it normal for the head to do a home visit?
  16. just had answerphone msg from the head of an asp school i was interested in sending steven to and he wants to do a home visit as there is now a place at his school for steve!!hes just left the office til monday so i cant phone him back but im hoping it will all go ahead, the reason im cautious is ive had letters from LEA before saying there is a school for steve and there hasent been but this time its actually the head of school so im getting a bit excited!! wish i didnt have to wait til monday but ive waited 11 months so i suppose 2 more days wont matter!im gonna have drink tonight to celebrate(fingers crossed ror me please!)
  17. hello bev i was sent a letter by the LEA telling me steve def had a olace in a school i was happy with,it told me to ring the school to make an appt,i rang them and they had never heard of steve!then a month later they done the same thing with another school!its like a sick joke,i cried both times, its terrible they can get away with it, i think life is hard enough without the LEA adding to it.
  18. i do not want to sound negative to all the people who are awaiting statements as everyone is not the same but steve got a statement a year ago and he might as well not have one for all the good its done him,i know LEAs are all different but my one is awful, hes still not in a school, hes been out for 10 months now,the LEA dont return my calls they are always in a meeting when i call so i really dont understand what difference a statement makes, are a lot of LEAS like this or have i just been unlucky?ive got my MP involved now and hes got 3 hours tuition a week and ive got another appt with him at end of april so hopefully things will get better,i find it all so frustrating,i thought when steve got a statement it would be like a magic wand and we would get the help he needs with schooling but it hasent happened. i know ive got to keep fighting and most of us have been through this but ive got to have a moan as its got to me today.

  22. steve has been off school for 8 months while the lea find him a school,i got my local mp involved and have just had a letter saying he can have a home tutor for 3 hours a week,is this the norm?does it normally mean he will get a school place soon after or has anyone had the situation that the child has a home tutor for a long time?

    excluded again

im new to computers so please ignore any mistakes!i had all the troubles with exclusions of steven,it all became so stressful,in the end i took steven out of school as it all became too much for steven,i am now waiting for steven to be placed at another school which is another story!looking back i wish i hadent let steven take the blame for every fight he had at school, other children get wise to the fact that our children have problems, dont take the schools word for it that the fight was your sons fault,i wish i had handled things differently looking back,i just always assumed the school was right
