cmuir Report post Posted October 13, 2006 Hi Been waiting for a year for CAMHS to accept a referral from my son's consultant. Robert's exhibiting self-injurous behaviour, is extremely abusive and hostile to people he doesn't know, makes threats (some of which he actually carries out!), etc. They've refused two referrals on the grounds that "other people are involved". I written to them saying that I have concerns about too many people being involved, however, it's important they do become involved because each specialist (consultant, SALT, psychologist, etc) all have their own areas of expertise which could help Robert (nearly 5). Got nowhere. Took Robert for his appointment with his consultant this morning. He was so badly behaved, shouting abuse, kicking and hitting walls, throwing and trying to break toys, etc. It wasn't pleasant seeing him behave in that way, but I'm so glad she witnessed that. She's witnessed Robert in a number of settings, each time he's behaved in a similar way. She was saying that it's purely because he's anxious. She was displeased that CAMHS have issued a letter agreeing to see him in 6 months time!!! She promptly phoned them to chase things up, demanding they see us now as she seen for herself how difficult things are for us. She's fantastic. Really feel like she's looking out for us. In addition, she's sending school a report to tell them not to even think about withdrawing/reducing support. Woman is a star - I'm so grateful to her. I also sent CAMHS a letter asking for reason/s why they've refused to see my son, stating that I've contacted my MSP!!! Caroline.
