why .....

Recommended Posts

Hi we've noticed that M won't eat in front of people

when they are in our home, when we go to friends or family

we take our own food, as he won't eat their food as he calls it.

Yesterday our Daughter had a friend to tea and M wouldn't or couldn't eat,

we didn't make a fuss, But today we went to a restaurant for Lunch (chinese)

he sat at the end of the table, (there were 10 of us all family) and he ate ok.

We are having difficulty understanding this,is he having us on with his eating,

I would have thought a restaurant was harder than eating at home,

anyone got any ideas xxxx

If your son was feeling a little uncomfortable eating in front of people you may find its worse at home or when theres just a few people around as maybe subconciously attention is focused on him, making him feel uncomfortable.

Where as in the restaurant maybe due to the amount of people, and conversation possibly happening, maybe the focus may have been away from your son.

Also as the social situation may have been difficult for your son maybe concentrating on eating helped him deal with the situation.

Don't know if this helps as its just my thoughts, hope so though xxxxxxxx

He freaked at the lady in the canteen at the centre in Nottingham who touched the cone of his ice cream with him refusing to eat it :( no advice sorry as u can see i am having troubles with that also.

Just a thought, but could it be the noise of other people chewing that he doesn't like?? A longshot, I know. It's just that, if he's sensitive to certain sounds, I know the sound of other people eating can be unbearable, whereas in a noisy restaurant you wouldn't notice this. Maybe you could try putting the radio on at mealtime as a distraction?

Good luck. >:D<<'>

That's a good point Mel my DS grumbles at the sound of people eating and God forbid should he see someone touch his food, cutlery, glass etc

thanks for your answers all, some of it actually most of it makes a lot of sense,

especially the sound of people eating, he's always moaning at his sister

to eat quietly even when we can't hear her.

its all very confusing and we're on a steep learning curve,

i suppose we'll always be on one LOL xxx
