JenRose Report post Posted May 28, 2007 would anyone mind just reading this letter i have written to the heads of the independent schools. i tend to write a bit aspieish and direct and usually like to get my letters checked in case they are a bit too direct!!!! dear sir/madam please find enclosed a request from the president of sendist asking for notification of a place at your school for our son. we would like to name your school in part 4 of our statement. our son has a dx of PDD/AS and has been out of mainstream school for over 18 months as he found school life stressful and was unable to manage his anxiety and other symptoms arising from his condition. we feel that the only effective way of him continuing his education would be in a school like yours as he requires specialist help, 1-2-1 and small classrooms. our lea has not been able to arrange an assessment at your school so the president of sendist is asking if michaels condition meets your admission criteria, and if you have a placement for him. we have until the 11th of june to let the sendist president know. yours sincerely
phoebe Report post Posted May 28, 2007 hi, yes, that seems fine. Maybe you have done this already, but it might be worth in your signing off bit telling them how to get hold of you if they wanted to speak to you? Good luck Phoebe

Have these schools seen M's Statement? Have you spoken to them about his needs? If you can, I would e-mail this letter to the schools and then follow it up with a telephone call (or give them your phone number and ask them to call you). People will be in occasionally, even over half-term. Most independent schools have an in-depth assessment process (to ensure they ARE the right school for the child). JenRose Report post Posted May 29, 2007 hiya kazzen, our LEA have refused to have him asessed at one of the two independent schools. so i am sending them this letter with a copy of his statement and his diagnosis letters. im just hoping there is enough time to arrange this or i can ask for a postponement but i dont want that, i want M back into school in september-hopefully!!! JenRose Report post Posted May 29, 2007 bit of good news, dont want to get excited yet though! spoke to one of the schools, they dont necessarily need to see M to asess him for a place, they can look at his statement/papers and say if they feel his SN fits their criteria without doing an asessment, they have told me to send in paperwork and head teacher is back in next week. other school-there is noone there just answering machine so i have left a message and will send paperwork. Kazzen161 Report post Posted May 29, 2007 The assessments vary - from a visit and a chat, to a three day/2night stay (for residential) and assessments by the school's own OT/SaLT/psych etc. It should say in their prospectus how they assess. Well done for ringing them - I always found it got quicker results.
