JsMum Report post Posted October 13, 2007 In our area it is called the social and communications Service, J is already identified as Social and Communication but they also look at ASD, the ASD panel consist of a PEADATRITION, PEADIATRIC DOCTOR, SPEECH AND LANGUAGE, OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY, PSYCHOLOGIST, the child goes throw different specialists to gather assessments and then they get together and determin if the child has AS/ASD. It is newish service and it really screens children who have a communication difficulty so they have to have identified this first before been referred. taggingalong Report post Posted October 13, 2007 thanks for that js mum. is this a one day thing or will he have several visits.. i was just told about referral but it was left at that. i have already been told that he is socially and emotionally immature but i myself think it goes deeper than that. his school and other people are of the same belief. it used to be i hated the thought of him having a label for his differences. now i just wish they could tell me what my son has whatever the label is.. i need to know so that he can get all the help he rightfully deserves. he is such a lovely child and i wouldnt have him any other way. JsMum Report post Posted October 13, 2007 J got referred in May, he saw the Peadatrition this September and he is due to see the psychologist after the New Year for us its a life time, we just want to know too, luckly we have had it confirmed and we are going with that one but we need a diagnosis so we are going down the longer route, from the looks of it for some it may take between 6-9 months. taggingalong Report post Posted October 14, 2007 hi shars. it is the educational physcologist that is doing the referral. i live in belfast so as you say all the boroughs are different and perhaps have different names for things. i dont know where it is you are from but js mum said her son was also referred as well. he was referred to the child and family centre but now i know that this was a different name for cahms. a wee bit confusing lol. he already has had his assessment done for educational needs and i am just waiting on the report hopefully that shouldnt be much longer. the school myself and the ed physc think that there is a strong possiblity of aspergers and i think that is why the referral has been madeto the panel. i am currently waiting on a full assesment for him god knows when that will happen. will keep you posted and let you know how i get on. JsMum Report post Posted October 14, 2007 J has been assessed educationally too and is totally seperate to the ASD panel, as I said its called social and communication panel not ASD, but they screen for ASD as it is very possible for them to have an ASD when communication and social difficulties are identified. J has been involved with cahms where they identified ADHD/ODD speech and language, communication difficulties, so he was referred to the new team SCD as cahms concentrated mainly on the Behavioural difficulties, offering medication and monitoring. J was referred to the SCD as the hospital peadatrition in May believes he is Autistic more able but showing enough for him to be concerned and so he referred him to the SCD to have screening for ASD. It is reletivily new and your right about the keeping corrispondance, but what ever they writie they will need to add to the childs records, but yes I am keeping letters too. The SCD are not a replacement for CAMHS or the assessment of Educational needs, these are all seperate services. JsMum
