A couple from my year in oz

(it was like 'A Year In Provence' only crapper (the year, not the location!) and more surreal! ...is that you, Angie?...)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DNT7uZf7lew

I wasn't heavily 'in' to any of them, but the soundscape was unavoidable (International biggies included David Bowie 'cos he was touring, Flock of Seagulls 'cos they sounded so Aussie and Kid Creole's 'annie' which I think was just a local thing 'cos the DJ up in the WA territory liked it! Oh - and the first eurythmics album, which was undoubtedly their first and best!

Apart from Kylie I don't know a great deal of Aussie music I don't think, well, apart from.....

Men At Work!

and one that's a bit more cool:

INXS

Blimey - that's two heads up for Men At Work (even the same song) in 24hrs! They'll be launching a comeback tour at this rate!:lol:

INXS - patchy, but when they were good they were VERY VERY good!

So sticking with the aussie/80's theme this has to be included:

And then back to classic brit pop and the perfect single (and video!):

:)

Create your own band and first record cover and title

It works oddly well!

1 - Go to

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Random

The first random Wikipedia article you get is the name of your band.

2 - Go to Random quotations:

http://www.quotationspage.com/random.php3

The last four words of the very last quote of the page is the title of your first album.

3 - Go to flickr and click on "explore the last seven days"

http://www.flickr.com/explore/interesting/7days/

Third picture, no matter what it is, will be your album cover.

Put it all together, that's your first album.

another 80's classic that was big in oz (well the bit i was in!)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l7xN0dWG4q8

and there was a fantastic 'new wave' version of this sonny & cher classic on COUNTDOWN but I can't find it :(... I'm fairly sure it wasn't the 'orbit' version (too neat and tidy!), so if anyone remembers it, gissa pointer... anyways' this is an ok version of the same cover version (???):

Ok Neil I hope I've done this right:

The name of my band is: Knots Landing

My first album is called: Yourself as Your Neighbor

And the album cover I have no idea how to put on here, but looked remarkably like a string of pearls to me, how apt B)

You've been busy Fran :D

Here's one for BD - I throw down the gauntlet & challenge you to listen all the way through :D

Ignore morris dancers :D

I looked away as soon as I saw the Morris dancers, but still had to close the page as soon as whoever it was started strangling the vole... I assume that's what the high-pitched squealing was, anyway(?)

Sooooooo.... trying to avoid 80's pop, 80's Australian/New Zealand pop and fer fer fer folk:hows about this little gem?

Not only did i manage to find something online by the man that wasn't ex-rated there is a fantastic little Flash cartoon someone's lovingly crafted for it... there's even a chance Mumble will like the cartoon, featuring as it does a penguin guitar solo!

Song and cartoon possibly a 'PG' rating, so parents look first. That said, I'm sure the kiddies will love it :)

All this talk of the 80s takes me back to mine and DH's Goth period!! We wanted to have this played at our wedding for our first dance as man an' wife, but decided against it in the end!! :o Good lord, what were we thinking!!

I've gone all sniffly now. :tearful::wub:

The Northumbrian Pipes, actually, you poor blinkered soul.

This should make you forget the horror - I listen to these guys a lot; (the non-furry ones)

Oh My gawd! Do you know Michael Stype himself hates that song?! He reckons it was REM selling out! Bet he LOVES that muppets thing!!

Personally, I can guarantee there'll be no REM from me if REM are on the CD Player - I'll either be out like a light (boredom sleep doesn't induce REM) or out the front door :lol:

Give me guitar solo penguins any day - think I'll nip back and watch that again!

I liked that one, but everyone's moaning about the sound quality(?)

I was kinda hoping it's MEANT to be that dirty... sounds sort of aphex twinny!

It also reminded me a bit of the Beta band (but not sure why(?))... tried to find the Beta's version of this, but couldn't so this version will have to do:

I LOVE that...sort of got a sixties vibe it.

So is that song by Bettaband, it is a cover?

and did you see my edit above?

Still just about 'dirty' enough (lo-fi drum sounds etc!)

'Daydream' - I've done some research... originally by 'The Wallace Collection' (right bunch of hippies!)

Then covered by Gunther Kellmann who was subsequently sampled by BOTH The Beta Band and I Monster...

Beta band have now split up - but if you check out their back catalogue i think you would like them... bit 'kraut rock meets early pink floyd via early verve'...

I Monster had (to my knowledge) only one album, but it is excellent... if you listen to it you'll know lots of the tracks, especially 'The Blue Wraith' (nya nya nya nya)

The beta bands sample of 'daydream' is on the track 'squares' :

I could hardly here the Beta Band but think i much prefer the I monster version! i also had a look at the Wallace Collection (sounds like a fashionable clothing range) and rather liked that. i was born too late, with i could be one of those hippies. i've got the hair and the freaky dance moves :D

My shopping list is getting longer every day. i'm so glad i got lots of record tokens for christmas! i love finding new music.

Here's one of my favourites. I saw this video for the first time today and it made me cry. Just read the info in 'About this video. Beautiful

Tis emotive stuff!

Perhaps we need something to cheer us up...

This goes all the way back, but DOES reappear on ORBS auntie Aubrey (1) project as a sample... the'drone' machine was specially built:

And this one is great on SO many levels... Comes from one of my fave films, starring just about the whole of my fave acting dynasty and is a brilliant feel good song!

That's one of Ben's faves too, along with 'you think I aint worth a dollar'...

The first time he heard it was when we were in the car... of course, he whacked the volume up for the quiet intro and then nearly went through the sunroof when the main track kicked in!:lol::lol: And we haven't even got a sun roof!!

More nice loud stuff -

And right at the top of the 'guilty pleasures' list:
