John855 Report post Posted March 4, 2008 First post Our son is on the ASD spectrum - his difficulties are broad but shallow. We are in the fortunate position of (just about) being able to afford private education for our son. The trade off is that a private school tends to offer smaller class sizes, better teacher / pupil ratios but many of them do not have the special needs provision which would be a statutory requirement in state schools. We are now looking for a secondary school and it is incredibly difficult to identify even a shortlist of schools that do have the skills and resources to support him. It basically comes down to speaking to each school to find out. I'd love to be able to find a list of mainstream private secondary schools that are happy to take ASD children. I understand that the rules of the forum do not allow for people to name schools but does anyone know where I might be able to find such a list or have any other suggestions ? Here's a link to their SEN information They produce an excellent guide to schools which you can order from the site (your local library may also have a copy) and they also have an online search facility. No need to worry about this. Members are classified by how many posts they have on the forum using mountains as a scale. Everyone starts as Norfolk Broads as they are flat and then works their way up the scale to Mt Blanc, Mt McKinley and beyond as they post more. It's just a bit of fun and safely ignored. madme Report post Posted March 5, 2008 What about the school that Ruth Kelly sent her son to? Can't name it. It may not be suitable. Gabbitas SEN school book is the best as it shows all schools mainstream and specialist with units or those that only have an "understanding".
