Butterflies in my stomach

Recommended Posts

Its the final week before I have to get the appeal in before the deadline, and I have a few last things to do in the next couple of days that have happened over the holidays, the EP came last week, and has indicated that D has dyspraxia, and needs conformation from an OT, and has diagnosed him with Specific Learning Difficulties, Dyslexia. He is on the 2nd centile for literacy and is about two and a half years behind his peers in his reading and writing skills, so tomorrow I will send off the report to the LEA and hope that they will decide he needs a statutory assessment. I am going to see the Head in the morning to show her a copy of the report, just in case anything needs to be amended. D is already getting 10 hrs help from the school resources so he is getting more help than a child would normally be expected to get on School action plus

I also spoke to someone from IPSEA last week, and I ended up doing a total rewrite of my reasons for appeal!

Running out of time, I could do with a couple more weeks, those 2 months have flown past, and it feels like this has been my entire focus.

Sallya,

I hope things work out for you and your LEA starts seeing sense. It's blatantly obvious that he needs a statutory assessment.

Good luck

Hi Sallyanne,

I know what a hard battle this is and you've done great to get this far. I know what you mean about time going quickly and that deadline looming! I cannot count the number of times I've worked through the night to get a report done by the deadline. I always end up having to post something off special delivery to ensure it gets there on time.

I'm glad you're getting help with IPSEA, they helped me a lot too at this stage of the process.

Good luck, you'll get there

Thanks Kathryn,

I just want to say you have given me so much good advice the last two months.I am not a very confident person, and you have given me the determination to get the help my little boy needs, I have finally sent the appeal form off today in the post.

The Head has continued to be supportive, however, thats not to say she hasnt put a couple of stumbling blocks in the way.The thing with the Independant EP, and trying to get imformation about the budget. The IPSEA man had to call her to explain why we needed it, and she has now done that. Hats off to her though, she has taken on board that D has dyslexia and needs to have OT involved with confirmation of dyspraxia, and has been looking into that to get the right help.

Its not been an easy time, and Hubby has been as much use as a fart in a windstorm, Ive done everything.

The IPSEA man phoned today, he has looked through all the paperwork, and said that he thinks the LEA will concede, and it wont need to go to tribunal, but that I shouldnt hold off on the appeal, to put the pressure on.

Theres nothing else I can do now, except wait and see what happens. Thankyou again for to every one who has helped me get through this.

lots of love

Sally

Hi Sally,

Just seen this and wanted to say, well done for getting the form in, now you can have a breather before the next bit.

I don't consider myself a very confident person either and before September I assumed teachers and schools knew best when it came to my child - how wrong  .

I too have been encouraged by people on this forum to go all out for the help my child needs. I wouldn't have known what was possible otherwise, with everyone in official positions telling me what couldn't be done, I would soon have given up hope.

Your IPSEA angel is right, keep putting on the pressure. I really hope you won't have to go to tribunal, but try not to worry about it just yet - early days.

Well done and take care,

K

 Hi Sally just seen the thread and seen lots of similarities between your son and mine.My aspie is dyslexic and dyspraxic too.In 2003 we applied for a statement and they assessed but only offered 5hrs, we appealed and they agreed to 10hrs, 2hrs specialist literacy and 1hr typing. We hope to have these hours increased at the annual review next week.Just wanted to say goodluck and fingers crossed.Suze.

Thanks everyone, hi Suze,

Still getting my head around all the EP had to say; very glad I had the assessment done now; it makes everything fit into place, why he struggles with schoolwork. I am glad that dypraxia and dyslexia have been recognised, especially with middle school getting closer. The school are giving him 10 hours from their own resources, so they are pulling out all the stops for him. I doubt very much that middle school will do the same for him.
