Referral to CAMHS...

Recommended Posts

had a letter from Louis's paediatrician today.

In it she has said 'I enclose a copy of my referral letter to CAMHS.' and that 'I am sorry that I can't do more for you'.

I don't know if you remember me saying, but at the end of the last school year, I had a phone call from the paed. and we had what I can only describe as a telephone consultation. She ended up giving me some advice on managing his behaviour, and telling me to put him on fish oil supplements, and to keep a check on his bowel movements.(? - why, I do not know!)

It seems that the phone call has probably changed her mind as to what she thinks Louis has got, as now in her referral letter to CAMHS, she has said:

"This young boy has recently been re-referred to the North Patch Team by Educational Pshycologist, the School Nurse, and by the GP, Dr ***********, because of the deterioration in his behaviour. It is thought that he may have ADHD as well as possible Asperger's Syndrome. The school are considering a Statement of Special Needs. He has previously been seen by me in September 2004 and I enclose my report.

He is now spending only about half an hour at school. Mother has to fetch him back as he starts wandering around the school and they cannot contain him........He cannot sit still and is always moving around..........The behaviour intervention service have been involved...He is very violent at home also and hits his siblings and swears...He gets very violent at school and throws chairs around......I think he may be a child who may benefit from medication for ADHD and I would be grateful if he could be seen by someone in your team.

We are not able to prescribe medication for ADHD because we have not got the resources to follow chldren up. Most children we see get only a one-off assessment due to our lack of resources.......I have however offered mother another appointment, probably in September because he will need a health report for a Statement of Special Needs.

so it looks like he now has ADHD and Aspergers instead of DAMP. It also looks like she agrees that he needs a statement. We do have an appointment for september - arranged on telephone, and confirmation sent a couple of weeks later.

Anyone got any ideas as to how long a wait is to see CAMHS in Hampshire???

We finally got to see CAMHS in July through our health visitor who speeded things up for us.

We are in North Hampshire.

You could also try the Carer Service who are fantastic in our area.

The LEA are awful though

My son has AS, ADHD, Speech & Language Disorder.

He has been attending SEN pre-school for 2 years & starts school in September but with no statement.

The LEA think 'his language delay has caught up'.

We only managed to get the dx after going independent to 2 different specialists.

The LEA are disregarding the dx and still refusing to assess.

They have made up evidence and told untruths in their case statement.

They act with incompetence & deny what they did.

They sent untrue and unammended (and implicating ) documents to the tribunal

They blocked us from support services on more than one occaision

:wallbash::angry::wallbash::angry::wallbash::angry::wallbash::angry:

...need I go on or was it something specific you were interested in ....?

I live in South Hampshire and had a battle to get a statement for my son, too. He was turned down first time but so many people got on their case that they left him at Special School (he'd been in the Nursery)while it was sorted out.he's stayed on at the School and made excellent progress.xx

I dont mind James going into mainstream as I hope he will learn more about the NT world and how to cope - at this stage at least.

However not without any support!!!!!

The fact that we're fighting even at assessment level really amazes me considering he's been in an SEN pre-school for the past 2 years
