BuntyB Report post Posted August 24, 2005 Hi, I wonder if you can help with a query about large sleepsuits? This is for a child with severe who is wearing age 4 clothes. She needs to wear popper vests and sleepsuits with fastenings on the shoulders or up the back otherwise she gets into her nappy with disasterous results. Her mother can only get speciaist clothing which is very pricey, but I am sure I have seen these somewhere. Can anyone help? Also of help would be extra large nappies and if anyone has found financial help to pay the cost of specialised clothing?
nightingales Report post Posted August 24, 2005 (edited) Just a thought, but has your friend tried Growbags (baby sleeping bags with shoulder straps) rather than sleepsuits? I think you can get them up to age 4, and some have zip pulls that end at the feet so they're quite hard to get at, or you could be really mean and pin the zip down with a nappy pin. Another thought is to buy ordinary sleepsuits without feet, and put them on back to front -- one of my children wore everything back to front from preference, and seemed to find it perfectly comfortable. Possibly not very helpful! Lins Sorry, it's Grobags not Growbags, and they do go up to age 6 -- just checked. lorryw Report post Posted August 24, 2005 Hi Shona, If you press Search at the top of the page and type in nappies you will find loads of stuff about free nappies and how to get them. I dont know about the sleepsuits but the Mum may be able to get help from the Family Fund with a grant for clothing. best wishes, Loraine
call me jaded Report post Posted August 24, 2005 I'm pretty sure I've seen big sleepsuits in Mothercare up to 6 years. Tigger and something else.
forbsay Report post Posted August 24, 2005 Marks & Spencers do them - i think up to the age of 3. However, they are large made. I have heard that some people just buy large vests and then sew the poppers on themselves - which could be a short term idea. In Scotland, I get large pull ups pants for my son - free as he is not toilet trained but I am not sure about other parts of the UK. You can tell your friend that she is not alone in this issue. When my son used to do this - I felt very alone but it is seemingly a fairly common problem. Maybe your friend could also contact the National Autistic Society - they might be able to help her. call me jaded Report post Posted August 24, 2005 Actually it could have been ASDA. We were on holiday and shopped at an ASDA while we were away.
nightingales Report post Posted August 24, 2005 If you search for 'eczema sleepsuits' you'll find cotton ones that fasten up the back (to stop scratching, but would also prevent other activity!). Might be expensive in big sizes, though.

BuntyB Report post Posted August 25, 2005 Hi, I have checked out the links, but without success. Couldn't find any sleepsuits on the first- the eczema suits go up to big sizes, but at 25 and 35 each are pretty pricey
smallworld Report post Posted August 25, 2005 Hi, look out for age 3 sleepsuits in the M&S sale, no-one seems to want em. Even if you can't get them in the sale you can order them in the store or on-line, they are huge and as long as you don't tumble dry them or put them on a radiator to dry they seem to stay huge (even had one set that seemed to get bigger !) Usually one out of the set of three will be back fastening, if you cut the feet off the others you can just put them on back to front. Also do you have a shop nearby that sells seconds ? They quite often have the larger sizes. In our area the store was called 'thrifty' unfortunately they have closed down now, but may be still going in other towns. wac

katkin Report post Posted August 27, 2005 Hi, you could try a bigger girls "body suit" as was in fashion a few years ago. Peacocks were still doing them up to a little while ago, and obviously the sizes go up and up. Verbaudet did do the sleepsuits up to age 13 or 160cm which was great and not too expensive either. I haven't got a catalogue to check but I'm sure they do them online. Vertbaudet also did the popper vests up to a larger size too. I have adapted pyjamas for a friend by taking out the elastic in the trousers, sewing the top to the bottoms, then cutting a seam in the centre back and putting a zip in. Buttons are a bit too easy to slide a hand in and the zip is much harder to reach and get down. This is a really cheap alternative as you can use any old cheapo pjs or even old ones. I tried it first on an old grungy pair to see if it worked.
