NikkiSmith Report post Posted October 3, 2005 Right, I'm new to all this SEN stuff and am still trying to get the hang of it, so forgive me if I sound really dippy My ds2 was 3 in August and paed says ASD and dutifully did the Notification for Education bit (which they have had, but lost!) Have met with the SENCO a few times and she just says leave him where he is at playgroup with his 1-2-1 helper, but he isn't getting anything out of it there and the manager says (off the record) she thinks he needs to go to Henry Tyndale (complex needs school.) Having viewed all three schools that were on the possible list for him, I agree with the playgroup manager. So the SENCO has now taken note that ds2 needs to move and has begun to gather info from me, paed, SALT and playgroup and tells me he is to be discussed at a meeting on the 13th (Multi-disciplanary something or other) and also on the 20th at the Pre-school Advisory Group meeting. So is this the beginning of the process? Or do I still need to put my request for a Statutory Assessment/Statement in writing to them? Sorry that was so long, but I haven't any idea what I should do now or next! Any input is appreciated! Nikki.
nellie Report post Posted October 3, 2005 Hi Nikki, If your son needs to move to a special school he will need a statement. It does not sound as if they are doing a statutory assessment, you would have had written confirmation of this. Even if the school do make the request you should make it too. You can find details of how to make a parental request for a statutory assessment here. http://www.ipsea.org.uk/sevenfixes.htm#RequestingAssessment Any questions just ask and good luck Nellie xx
