slt101 Report post Posted October 8, 2005 Do any of you watch some of the material from the Teachers TV channel? (Sky 592) There is information on this channel about primary and secondary teaching and whole school strategies. It has some interesting programmes on SEN including ASD and gives an insight into what is happening in schools today. There have a library of programmes on their their website for you to view and download. Worth a look.

Kazzen161 Report post Posted October 8, 2005 I watch some of the programmes. There was one (on Primary SEN I think) that was about including a child with a severe visual impairment. Her LSA's had specialist training, and the Teacher had to plan all the work a week in advance and then spend an hour each week with the visual impairment specialist teacher advisor going over how each lesson woudl need to be adapted to be accessible to her. Her LSA commented that they had to work on social skills (eg: encouraging her to look at people when they are talking to her) as she couldn't pick up non-verbal signals. The school where I am a Governor will have a partially sighted child coming to them in 2 years time, and they are already making plans for how they will include her. If only all of our children could be given the same sort of consideration. Karen
