Hi

Recommended Posts

Well i dont know where to start *sigh*

Suppose it would be best to introduce myself, My name is Nicke...I am a single mum with 2 boys one aged 11 the other aged 4. My 11 year old son has always had trouble in school. He attended 3 mainstream schools and after exclusion was placed in an EBD school. He didnt cope at the EBD school so after 2 years of trying to get some assessments done on him with no success i decided to withdraw him with the hope that they would take me to court which in turn would have gotten me heard. He has been out of school for over 2 years now & the LEA never did a thing.

I had a solicitor previously which didnt have a clue what she was doing but for the past 18 months i have had the greatest one alive.

She got independant Dr's to assess my son (Cameron). He had a diagnosis of Aspergers syndrome & Dyspraxia as a result of the 4 seperate Dr's meeting him.

Regardless of this the LEA insist that he is "mainly an EBD child as 1 Dr that they sent me to decided that i have managed to manipulate the Dr's into beleiving what i want them to beleive, which i have to say would be quite an accomplishment!!

According to their Dr i abuse my son & he ha "attachment issues" on top of "Mild ASD" Despite the 4 Drs reports that i had & the 3 days Cameron spent in a spcialist Aspergers school as a trial & their acceptance of him.

We had our tribunal hearing dated for the 24th May (i think?) then it was adjourned until the 15th July as the LEA had NO evidence (despite claiming they had completed their statutory assessments) The next date was 8th(?) Sept which we didnt complete so adjourned again till 6th October. I received my documents this morning to say that I have not been successful in my tribunal and to be quite honest I dont know what to do next!

They want to send him back to another EBD school, this time residential. Some of the children that bullied my son to the point of him soiling himself actually attend this school also.

erm, I'm sorry for coming onto here venting but im at a bit of a loss with it turning up on a saturday & have no idea where to turn as the majority of people no matter how much they want to help & support you, have no idea what they are talking about or how you feel :(

anywayyyyyy i know its all jumbled & makes no sense whatsoever but any advice on how to stay on my feet & how to not get put into prison when i refuse to let my son go somewhere he is inevitably going to end up hurt will be greatly appreciated!!

p.s I set up a website for Cameron a couple of years ago, it wasnt much help but it might make more sense than i do right now!! www.cameronscause.co.uk

Hi Nicke,

Welcome to the forum >:D<<'> .

Please don't apologise for venting, you have every right too. I know you have already had the help of a solicitor, but have you spoken to IPSEA. If you don't know about them already, they give free SEN educational advice. They will help you with letters and attend meetings with you too. Please take a look at their site, you will see what they do.

I have a 16 year old son was always in trouble at school (countless exclusions), but it was because school staff had no real understanding of his difficulties. I withdrew him from school too in the end. IPSEA were brilliant, they were with us until everything was sorted out.

Sorry that's all the advice I can give you. There are great people here on the forum who will hopefully have some other suggestions.

Annie

Nicke,

If you don't get through to IPSEA on Monday, please keep trying. I had lost all my confidence when I first called them. My LEA and my son's ex-school made me feel that I was fighting a lost cause. My son's diagnosis was disputed too. I had been lied to and all sorts of things had happened underhandedly.

All I am saying is that I know that you don't feel good about things now, and I don't blame you. We're all behind you here, so many of us know what it feels like. You're amongst people here who do understand.

Right, I called IPSEA and as i already have a solicitor on the case he said he was limited as to what advice he was allowed to offer me.

He just basically said that "IF" there is a basis for appeal the i can appeal it, which i knew i just dont know if there is a basis yet

he also said i will need to get another Dr with expertise in AS/ASD to diagnose Cameron & also to visit my GP to tell her whats going on & get him a sick note hopefully so that he doesnt have to go to that school.

well i've made about 40 calls this morning & now i am completely lost!!

meh!!, i have no clue what i'm doing at the moment let alone what i'm going to do!!
