Kerre Report post Posted December 9, 2005 I find it impossible to amuse myself. Most of the day I just sit around on the computer, and it's not healthy. I need some way to amuse myself, but most things suck.
call me jaded Report post Posted December 9, 2005 I am here because the piece of work I'm doing is irretrievably dull. Can I join your club? I'd say get yourself and obsession or two but your mum may not appreciate that little gem.
call me jaded Report post Posted December 9, 2005 Actually the overall piece of work I'm doing is fascinating, but today I'm analysing (yawn) data.

littlenemo Report post Posted December 9, 2005 Surely there must be something you could become obsessed with that wouldn't be too painful for those around you - the works of Bill Hicks, famous Aspies through history, Islamic geometric art, there's a world of stuff out there. If you can find something obscure or new-agey (or AS related) and read all you can on the subject, there will come a time when you read something and realise that you know more about the subject than anyone else. Then you write down what you know, send it to various publishers and with a bit of luck, they'll send you a cheque twice a year for the next 15 years and you'll be famous(ish) throughout the world. It worked for me, I'm sure it could for you too good luck nemo
Kerre Report post Posted December 9, 2005 No, it won't. I don't have the motivation.
anxiousmom Report post Posted December 9, 2005 "I'm bored" is something I say about 50 times a day. When I was young my mum used to say that I wasn't bored I was wrestless! When I was at work they would laugh and just give me more work to do (which I would turn around 100% correct in record time... then complain some more - not that I'm weird or anything!!). I'll join the club too.... I'm always bored.... interrupted with periods of worry and anxiety... but bored usually.... UKStyle helps... bargin hunt, trading up, flog it.... and a bit of judge judy (OMG I shuld never have resigned - brain the size of a planet left to daytime tv and mopping the kitchin floor!! )

Corcaigh Report post Posted December 9, 2005 Kerre, if you're bored I have something for you!!! Would you like to write a story for my research (see topic http://www.asd-forum.org.uk/forum/index.php?showtopic=4895), a story about how you see yourself in the world or about anything you like and then send it to me at buckleym@iol.ie? BTW, how old are you? If you do that, I'll be forever grateful (I'll change your name, you'll be completely anonymous ) <'> Martina

It worked for me, I'm sure it could for you too So you have succeeded in getting a book published. Was it a worthwhile effort? When I found out the costs of publishing I came to the conclusion that most writer's make a loss unless their work is a bestseller or a "standard" textbook. littlenemo Report post Posted December 9, 2005 I was insanely lucky. My obsession in the late 80's was celtic knotwork (specifically the geometry used). All I wanted to do was create new knots on the computer for t-shirt designs (was involved in a craft shop at the time). Then when Com was born and the dole ****ed up and left us with 50 quid to live on for 12 weeks, someone suggested writing it up and getting an advance from the publishers. I did and it was snapped up (though the advance took another 6 months). Last year I found out that it has become the top-seller on the subject, though I've always seen it as a herd of cows in an allotment ( a big breakthrough in a tiny field) The reason I suggested new agey stuff (crystals, holistic flim-flams, etc.) is that publishers can't seem to get enough of them at the moment (that and 'chick-lit'). The down side is that you get weird letters and emails for the next decade (usually from religious types in Virginia in my case), but being paid repeatedly for 3 weeks work 15 years ago sort of makes up for it Since then I've been asked to write several others, which have all been trash, but it's very hard to say no to a grand a week for 3 weeks work when you can't get a job. nemo
DaisyProudfoot Report post Posted December 9, 2005 My husband did a load of research into the origin of Northumbrian place names when he did his Masters dissertation and has become quite the reference source for students. He's put it all on our website which can be found at: http://www.futers.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk It's a bit dull for me but loads of enthusiasts seem to love it! Lucas Report post Posted December 9, 2005 I'm often bored. All my work is only part-time and I'm waiting for a support specialist to ring me and actually help get me into work and training that I can actually do where people don't make me feel stupid or useless(which often results in me returning the courtesy as they don't think I hear them talking to other staff/their cronies about their domestic problems and inadequecies which I as an Autistic don't set the same value in). I've always toyed with the idea of writing a book but I simply enjoy everything in my own inner-space so much that I don't care to share it with others most the time. Gems such as: "I know he can give you one answer he thinks is correct, but I can give you millions of answers which I *know* are wrong. If you can't work out which is more useful, then I'd be better off selling my bag of tricks on eBay."
lindy-lou Report post Posted December 9, 2005 kerre if you spend alot of time on the pc,how about making your own forum for other kids with ASD/AS?im sure their are people on here who would like their kids to have other like minded people to talk to,maybe someone(your mum?)could keep an eye on it for you to make sure you keep safe online.you can get your own free phpbb forum here- http://www.1-2-free-forums.com/ its only advisable to do this if you have permission and support from your parents though x if you want to get off the pc though you could do something arty, painting stones is something fun and cheap and you can be very imaginative with them,or making xmas decorations, paper chains etc,il have to have a think and maybe ask my nephew what he would think would be cool to do if he was bored,il get back to you!!
