darky Report post Posted May 22, 2006 how to be happy sad angry peed off euphoric at the same time!! i battled tooth and nail with my sons old school about his needs. he was dx with asperger syndrome and dyslexia in feb this year. i moved him from his school as they kept on telling me his progress was fine, average even and i didnt need to worry in fact my son didnt have any needs, i was paranoid. i had private assessments done on him which projected him at 2 years behind, but that couldnt be right could it with the schools assessments putting him at average, in fact targeting him to reach level 4 by the yr 6 sats! hahahahaha! got them!! after i made complaints and asked for my sons results on his termly assessments, they sent me this. ks1 sats literacy 2, numeracy 2c, yr 3 target 2a literacy 2b numeracy, yr 3 optional sats 3c literacy 2a numeracy yr 4 target 3b literacy, 3c numeracy. "this places C in the average range of expectations for his year and as a result, no concern was relayed to senco re acedemic attainment". my son was put in top english and struggled as a result, he was screeching hooting, flapping, hanging upside down and suffered meltdowns every single day. been in a new school for this term, behaviour improved at home, teachers report hes settled in very well, participating in lessons etc, trying his best. HOWEVER they have done optional sats, level 2b english, level 1a maths. NO progress at all for the past 2 years, confirming what all the private specialists have told me. he is 2 years behind. so how on earth did the old school come up with these figures for the end of yr 3. if their figures are correct, my son has gone backwards in a year. I THINK NOT. ombudsmun here i come! his new school tell me he is NO WAY on target to reach level 4 in yr 6. so this is where im happy that finaly i was right and whats more i have proof

Flora Report post Posted May 22, 2006 darky, good for you I wish I could take Luke out of his school and put him into the other village primary. He's so happy where he is now though that I don't think it would be fair on him. But like you his teachers are saying he's fine when last year I had a private ed psych report which gave him a numeracy age of 5.4years when he was nearly 9!!!!! He's still actually working towards level 1 in maths but all the HT/SENCO will say is 'oh don't worry he'll get level 3 in the year 6 SAT's'. I don't know how he could! He won't get level 3 in anything and how can they say he's fine when that's the best they can expect?? I've written to them this week asking for all sorts of changes and for a educational assessment. Sounds like you've got things in hand for youe little one. Lauren
