allure Report post Posted May 23, 2006 okay I've just had the scariest moments of my life *sigh* this is only wade's second full day at school..he wet himself this morning..i knew this was being a bad day for him then the school calls back 20 mins after wade should have been home from school and he was missing!! never got into his transport and they've no idea where he is!! I've gone to the school and the police were called..2 hours later he showed up at home..He had walked home. decided he wanted to see how far it was on foot and how long it'd take him! (it's about 8 miles, it took him just under 2 hours) I can't tell you how terrified i was that something or someone happened to him..I thought i'd never see him again! why isn't someone at the school making sure he gets to his taxi ok???????????? god i am so mad and emotional right now.. when I saw him i cried my eyes out and told him i thought he was gone forever. He doesn't seem at all phased by it. The police brought me home and spoke to him but I don't think He fully understand just how dangerous what he did is!! how do i make him understand he could have been kidnapped or hurt or killed? Zemanski Report post Posted May 23, 2006 <'> <'> <'> I've never been there, for a start the LEA doesn't provide transport so we always pick him up and secondly he knows he couldn't even begin to figure out which direction home is in - and he's almost 14, but I can understand the trauma so I'm sending lots of these <'> <'> <'> <'> clever lad to make it all that way, and persistent too! Bullet Report post Posted May 23, 2006 He sounds like an intelligent lad, at least his reasoning was logical, if designed to scare the hell out of you . There will come a time when he'll realise what he did. Similar story, when I was 10 my primary school had connections with two churches and every year there would be various services (harvest festival, Christingle etc) held at one of these churches. It was the Christmas service and I wrongly told my mum that it was in xx church and could she pick me up from that. It wasn't, it was at the other one, which I didn't realise until later that day. But it never occurred to me to tell my mum of the change (could have asked to phone her up at home) because as far as I was concerned if I knew then she would know 8). It was only when I got older that I realised the panic she must have felt when she went to collect me and I wasn't where I should be. And you would think the telling off I got would have helped me understand. Nope, I did exactly the same thing a few months later
justamom Report post Posted May 23, 2006 OMG, So glad that he is ok,must have sore feet from the long walk... You must have been out of your mind, i know i would have been. I must admit that i would be furious with the school for not checking that he gets into his transport and that he left the school without them knowing, is it a special school because he should be escorted to and from the taxi??? Glad nothing bad happened to him sending you loads of hugs <'> Justamom

Bagpuss Report post Posted May 23, 2006 Oh Allure, you must have been worried sick <'> <'> <'> Our youngest dd gets transport to and from school. She gets taxi on a morning and bus on an evening. She has a chaperone both times. She's only 5 though. Thank goodness he got back safely. Take care,
allure Report post Posted May 23, 2006 thanks so much for all the support! *hugs* I'm not sure whether to be angry or elated! wade isn't the lease bit phased by it all.. and yeah he did get soaked in the rain on the way home and complained that his feet hurt I'm calling the LEA tomorrow and raising hell, his key worker called tonight and I've told her he needs to be taken to and from transport from now on. she agreed! I told them when he started there that he was prone to wandering (though it's usually closets he hides in and he's never ever before left the school grounds) maybe now they will believe me! It's sad that it takes something like this before the school listens to what the parents are saying!
