How weird is this "Tomato Soup Cake"

Hi,

 

I know this is popular in the US but finally its in cooking books in Australia, Tomato Soup Cake have any of you tried it.

 

If you have made it or tried it please let me know 'this recipe contains chocolate'

 

Anyone tried this it doesnt have icing, what sort of icing would you use Barbeque sauce icing

I'm usually quite eager to try new foods but... tomato soup cake

First thing to note is that this recipe comes from the Depression, when food was scarce. Which sort of excuses it...

It's a spice cake, though I haven't seen any versions with chocolate in , but they all contain nuts (and sometimes cherries ) But it does require a pound of sugar to add to all the sugar in the soup

For icing, the recommendation is Cream Cheese Icing, but I'd go for something with a bit of colour - a Blue Cheese Icing, maybe or something with chilli in - maybe a Salsa Icing with chunks of various-coloured peppers in
