calling all those in the know!

Recommended Posts

My son is currently 2 years behind in all subjects at his school. He has 15 hours a week with an lsa.

I feel its not good enough, i kept him in mainsteam to be with his peers, but i feel his is being failed. He has just 2 years left before secondary school, so in order to be ready acadenically he needs to do 4 years work in just 2.

I dont expect miracles, but i think more effort should have been made this year, and i am looking at making steps to change his education now. Does anyone know of any legal position i could lean on?

Im looking at a specialist asd unit nearby but obviously i need to gather as much ammunition as possible.

When do things get reassessed? how bad do things have to be before action can be taken. Any information or experiences would be hugely gratefully received.

Hi, nice to meet you, I've not been here long myself. >:D<<'>

I can only say what I felt about my son really, and that is that he was being failed so badly at primary school that in the end we decided we had to take him out and home educate for the last two years. He made so much progress in that time and that really set him up for going back into school at secondary age. He was nine when we took him out and he couldn't even write on a line, his writing was more like a three year olds :o He spent most of his day on his own with his TA and half the day screaming and shouting. He had no friends and was so stressed we were all cracking up.

Sorry, I know nothing about the legal position, all I know is that when he was at primary school they seemed to think that they were doing their best to meet his needs and there was no arguing with them. If those teachers were to see him now they wouldn't believe he was the same child! :o

Best of luck.

Hiya

Does your son have a statement is the first question I would ask you. If he does when is the annual review.

You can call an emergency annual review if its not soon.

We have just gone through this with my son only having 15 hours a week. I was looking at a special school myself but his statement wasnt high enough. He had band d and he needed band e for a special school.

We have just got the hours upped and is now full time statment. We have decided to keep him in mainstream as we are changing schools and I felt he deserved the chance with the extra help.

From our experience special school recommandation comes from the higher authorities but believe me if you push hard enough on the right people then hopefully you will get somewhere.

Just look at whether you think he needs a special school of whether with more lsa help he could achieve more.

xx
