What do you think?

Recommended Posts

I like writing and sometimes post things on another forum about creative writings. I came up with this. It was inspired by a woman who used to go to this babyclub I went to with Tom when he was a baby and was at the health visitor clinic one day:

To the woman at the doctors.

I'd like to shake you by the hand

You're really very smart

For when it comes to diagnoses

You've created a fine art.

You only glanced upon my son

For a brief space of time

And yet you could declare him well,

That everything was fine.

His second head does not appear

Until the moon shines full

And those two horns upon his nose

Must be invisible.

Now just ignore the way he talks

It really doesn't matter

To have a lad that can repeat

But never ever chatter.

Why bother if I struggle

And fail to make him shake his head

When asking if he's tired

And ready for his bed.

He isn't in a wheelchair

He runs about quite free

Which was the evidence you had

To state "looks fine to me".

So I've given up explaining

To people such as you

That problems can run deeper

Than they appear to do.

And don't declare that all I want

Is some new and fancy label

That I'm seeing things that just aren't there

And making up a fable.

For that which caused my son to march

To a strange and different song

Is present in my mind as well

And has been all along

But whereas I can write these words

And speak them if not stressed

He struggles just to sign his name

And finds it such a test

I would not have his nature changed

He can't be called demanding

But all I ask for you is this:

A little understanding.

Well done Bullet - you said it all.

I'm sure we can all think of at least one professional we'd like to dedicate that to!:devil:

Very nicely said, I think handing your poem out instead of the nas asd cards might make people think about it even more. Thanks for sharing it with us.
