  1. Just so you know - you can download a version to fill in on a pc at: http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/DisabledPeople...nce/DG_10011925 anyway - just a few q's I'm not sure if I qualify - I have no problems washing, dressing, cooking, but have mild-moderate coordination problems, and communication/socialising - should I still apply? Also - a lot of troubles aren't things I usually need others help with - but can usually cope with myself - again does that matter? and - when it asks how many days a week I need help - that can vary, what shouold I put? it mentions a three month qualifying period - is this from the date you submit the form? and finallty - where it asks how long you've had the condition - should I just put "lifelong"? ta.
  2. "and this sometimes gives the impression that you are less interested than you really are." That's a good one! - ta!
  3. Yeah - I hate the whole "selling myself" thing too! just so annoying when you know you could do a job with your eyes closed, and someone else can come in and bull**** their way in, and probably ###### off somewhere else within a few months...
  4. Hi, I was planning my preinterview "i'm an aspie" statement. what do you guys think of this? ----------------------------------------- Hello, Before I attend the interview, I would like to make you aware that I have Aspergers Syndrome. This may make some of my answers sound a little unexpressive, and I can sometimes find it difficult to expand on things. However I can assure you that I feel confident in my ability to do the job. I have a talent for working with data and statistics, and am dedicated abd loyal, as my career history and references confirm. --- For more information, please refer to: http://www.asperger.org.uk/asperger-syndro...er-syndrome.asp Which gives a well balanced view of the symptoms. Also: http://www.aspergertechnical.org.uk/index....=strengths.html Shows that the effects aren’t all negative. --- Thank you

    Hello!

well - my assesment is in bury st endmunds this wednesday...
  7. So - I had another 2 job interviews last week. 1 which I've had a "no" from, and another where the job role mentioned "knowledge of mortgage collection data would be an advantage" - and they grilled me for half the interview on mortgage collection data... The majority of feedback I've had from interviews has been that I'm not expressive enough in my answers, and seem to lack enthusiasm - I just feel there's nothing I can do to improve this - I do so much preparation for interviews - answers ready, company researched, well dressed. And then i sound like the animalat 2:10 of this video.. or the elephant at about 2:55... just aion't fair.

    Hello!

She seemed Very nice - Said that she'd norticed an increase in adults wanting a diagnosis, and told me about some support groups for employment advice and other general help (which I will be in contact with) And although there are no NHS diagnosis services in our area, she did give information on the autism research centre in cambridge (they've lost their funding for out of area assessments, but do provide privbate diagnoses.
  9. Hi, Do you mind if I ask how much the assessment cost? what form did it take - and did it need more than one session?

Hi, Thanks for the links! I'm not sure what the mental health linkworker will do at the first appointment- I was refered by my (new) GP.
  13. HI, I was wondering what peoples thoughts were on disclosing AS before a job interview. My thoughts are that it does affect my interview performance - as it makes me sound unenthusiastic, and lacking a little spontenaity. However - I'm wondering if any mention of this is likely to make them think I'm blagging t.. also - I've yet to be formally diagnosed.

    Hello!

Hi guys, I'm 35, and think I'm an aspie. I was a pretty awkward feet first birth (obviously can't remember myself - but mum can!) Although I did pretty well at school, I did have dificulties in communication and coordination - particularly handwriting and sports. The same applies to my adult life so far - doing pretty well, but coordination and communication are a struggle. The biggest dificulty recently is defending myself - several times at my last but one job, I'd get assignments, would produce a nice spec, get that confirmed and produce the reports, and they'd say it was all hunky dory - only to pipe up a few weeks later and tell my boss I'd done it all wrong, my boss just wouldn't back me up when I'd told her that the spec had been ok'd. This would have been one of the factors that led to my redundancy there. Anyway - I've just made the first steps towards getting a diagnosis - the GP was ok about it, and I've been refered to a mental health linkworker for an appt next week.
  15. Your Aspie score: 135 of 200 Your neurotypical (non-autistic) score: 72 of 200 You are very likely an Aspie I don't have tourettes though.....
  16. last year somerfield had included toothbrushes in a multibuy offer - i think it was 2 for £2 - but they were only 80p; each... your/you're and there/their/they're are the ones that really bug me

    I feel a fake

I used to wet the bed until I was about 9ish, Mum did try one of the alarm beds, but I think it actually went off every time I turned over.... SO that got chucked out quite quickly. I was ok about nappies at night though.
  19. well - I reenact scenes from this: http://www.doodie.com/anger_management.php (gratuitous cartoon violence alert) "If you could do any job in the world, what would your ideal job be?" The one you're being interviewed for, of course!
  20. "During my lunch hour at work, I was searching online for candles. Now, (I have discovered), candles appear on all kinds of different websites - gifts, green organic stylee etc ... and, *ahem* "adult" sites, as I realised when I clicked on an innocent looking link and a giant, purple, errr ... "device" appeared on my screen in FULL VIEW of the rest of the office " I had an email once from "technical services" with a subject of "system downtime" , and let's just say that the picture in the email involved a cucumber.... "I once asked for a horse drier at a hotel in Paris " My mum asked for strawberry chcikens! in playschool the teachers asked us where rain came from, and added "it's when the clouds cry isn't it??" , and I gave that answer as a 12 year old in middle school!!
