  1. Hi I wonder if anyone could help me here please I have been asked by my sons teacher for a letter giving them permission to use restraint if necessary. Could you please advise what I need to put in the letter e.g. is it better to state the type of restraint (does anyone know the name a bearhug? from behind type restraint oh dear hope that makes sense) only to be used and by whom and is there anything else that needs to be stated . I have been trying to write the letter and thought you would all know much better than me or point me in the right direction. Thanks all once again.

  6. Jen, Thanks for your great reply his teacher is great and really supportive but she just not so hot on the process and what happens but she knows about the appointments and what happened the Educational Psychatrist has visited the school as did the child pead I will try and find out about the communication team I haven't heard about them yet. The folder is a great idea thanks especially as it in the early days and not too much paperwork yet I can fill it as I go along. Thanks you have given me loads of ideas and I will now sort out about the statement. Thank you so much and I hope your statement gets sorted out properly really soon. Kathy
  7. Thanks Jenrose I will ask for him to be statemented it might save some time I was reading somewhere it takes 26 weeks to get statemented and thats probably it it all goes okay its so slow, i will contact IPSEA next as well thanks very much for your help. Caroline like you my sons nursery picked up on him acting differently from the other children but only bothered to tell me when I said he was being referred by school I had no idea before then though thanks for telling me all about the process and yes I will have another look at NAS thanks again. Kathy
  8. Hi My son started school in September and basically because he was having problems concentrating, sharing, being touched ( this has got a lot worse and if anyone slightly touches him as they go into school he pushs them ) and calling out in class etc. his teacher referred him. After a few months we were given an appointment with a child pead who saw him in December she referred him onto somewhere else to assess him (saying he has flavours of autism) and we have at last got his appointment it is with two Occupational therapists and a child pead but I have been trying to find out what happens next I assume this appointment is to dx him but the school referred him so does that mean after this appointment he will get the extra help at school he needs or once they have a dx ( if we get one) does it mean he will need a statement and how do I go about getting that or do they normally give you all the info at the appointment. Sorry to sound ignorant but I can find out loads of info about the statementing process once its started but I don't really now how it starts I have asked his teacher and the unit where he has his appointment and they don't know. Thanks very much I have been trying to find this out for ages so am really looking forward to you all enlightening me. Kathy
  9. Hi My son (not yet dx although apparently has flavours of Autism ) was three when he came out of the nappies during the day he is still not reliably dry at night and for a year and a half would not wear pull ups at night ( just wet the bed ) but now will he was five in September last. Good luck Kathy xx
  10. Thanks for all your replies you have certainly helped me decide when and how to tell him its great to be able to talk to like minded people that understand and to know I can come here any time and find out the best way for my son. Look forward to speaking again. Kathy.
  11. Thanks very much for your replies certainly gave me some ideas on how to tell him if anyone remembers the names of the books please could you let me know. I am like you mum22boys for his first appointment I told him they were going to find out how to help him with his concentration ( you said temper tantrums)which is partly true he doesn't seem to know yet he is a little different from his peers. Carole he hasn't started asking any questions at all yet and thanks for your ideas about how everyone is different I will certainly have a chat with him about that. OPooh it must be heartbreaking to hear you son saying he thinks everyone hates him I thought Tom my son had got friends at school but when we went to a school disco he had no friends at all it was so sad but he didn't seem to notice yet but I am sure he will soon. Thanks again everyone for all your help. Kathy
  12. Hi I am new on here my son started school in September and to cut a long story short he was referred after about three weeks, we have been to see the child pead who said he has flavours of Autism and she has basically referred him on to a specialised centre for a more through referral I suppose, the appointment will take two or three months to come through. He was 5 in September and at the moment I have managed to skirt around the issue but how did you all put it to your children that they may have an ASD I really don't know how to put it to him I don't won't to worry him. He has full speech and basically I think I am still in shock really and find it difficult talking teacher, pead about it all without getting upset which obviously makes it difficult to get my point across sometimes did anyone else here have this problem and does it get easier to talk about it without getting upset. Thanks very much in advance for your help its great to be able to talk to people who understand some of my friends really don't understand. Thanks Kathy
