  6. Hi I don't think you over-reacted at all. When my ds was dx i was at the appointment on my own and broke down. The specialist couldn't have been any nocer if she had tried. One thing she did say to me is that it can take people especially the fathers to take a good 6-9mths to come to terms with such a dx. Apparently it is some kind of denial thing, because when they realise it is hereditry they look for where it could have come from and they are scared because they may see it in themselves. Thats what happened here, df wouldn't except it, said it was an excuse to label ect ect. I left numerous websites lying around, books and nothing worked. I finally gave up had a mini breakdown. He started reading and low and behold admitted he could see himself in our ds. Well i am now looking at where its come from and i have to agree with him, i think he has traits of AS. It is so draining when i have to be clear and consise to a 6yr old about what i would like, but when it is to a 30yr old as well..... Don't get me wrong i love them both dearly, but blimey it is hard work. I do hope your ex wakes up and starts to except....good luck Take care tmf xx

    more meltdowns

loulou Sending you lots of <'> <'> <'> I can totally sympathise with you. I remember when my son attacked me for the 1st time, i sobbed my heart out. Not because he hurt me physically (mind you i hadn't realised how strong he was until that point) it was the shock at my own flesh and blood doing this to me. At the time i couldn't go near him for 2 days or so (this was not long after he was 1st dx) as i was so ashamed at my parenting that my own child could do this to me. It was only gaining understanding of AS and learning what could trigger an 'attack' that luckily we have had no more of them kind of meltdowns. Plenty of the other mind you! It is so hard on deciding which is the best way to go to try and prevent these meltdowns, it's certainly one big learning curve and just when you think you have it sussed they take on a new dimension! Hope things improve soon... take care tmf xx
  9. Go Phas.... Well i am a manager in um lets just say one of the establishments you have mentioned, and because i feel sooo strongly about it like you guys i certainly put tannoys out asking them to remove their vehicles. And i escort them to their car to make sure they dam well do it too! I remember once some lazy cow parked in the parent and child space and it made my blood boil. I chased her down the road shouting excuse me excuse me, she turned around and wondered y i appeared to be in such a panic. My response.....'u have left your baby in the car' Puzzled by this she replied i don't have a baby. My little act suddenly turned into reality at which my response was ' well what the hell are you doing in that space then, can you not read!! I have just had to struggle with my child (asd and 3 at the time). Did she care,......did she S**T!!! Madme, sorry to say the trolley lad isn't allowed to approach thoughtless customers, wot you were told was correct. But the assistants on the customer service desk would certainly deal with it for you as they are trained (and paid) to deal with confronting customers like this. In fact i have had a fair few letters of complaint about me from these type of customers for 'humiliating' them.....do i care, do i S**T!!!! they shouldn't be soooo ###### inconsiderate! As lil_me said, they are parent and child, not parent and baby!
  10. Kids are so funny aren't they!! I remember once it was tipping down and i commented to df (darling fiance ) it was raining cats and dogs. Well ds as serious as he was bless him stared out of the window for ages looking for 'cats and dogs'. That took some explaining i can tell you!
