  1. More recently MH has spoken out against people using The Curious Incident as a text-book. The words after, bolted, door, horse, locking and stable come to mind... http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/hay-festival/9311242/Hay-Festival-2012-Mark-Haddon-dont-use-Curious-Incident...-as-an-autism-textbook.html

  9. Owning a property automatically puts one above the maximum savings threshold, which is why I won't be receiving any more benefits come August. This despite the fact that the net income I receive from letting out my Exeter flat comes to £12 a month tops.

  13. My twopennor'th: So I am back at the young ambassadors' meeting May 2012, and we have been looking at how we are going to get our message across to youth clubs, MPs etc about our film ‘Young Disabled and In Control’. We met someone who is a disabled campaign activist: we had listened to her insight into her life and how she came about being a disabled campaigner. We were given a guide on our campaigning and rights; we then split into groups and had to do sessions on how you go about getting your message across, such as write to your local MP. My suggestion was local cut backs and the ASD criteria changing in 2013, and then to go and see my MP and raise my concerns at her local surgery. Another session was on how to plan an event. The last two sessions were about how to write a letter (the different types of letters and formats) and public speaking (how we would speak and act etc). At the end of the day we were looking at promises that people had made as a result of our film ‘Young Disabled and In Control’. I was looking at specific promises and then we planned a basic email template to send to the people who had pledged a promise of what they were going to do after watching our film. Also, we are being set up with an email address so we can respond to the ones who made those promises (6 months ago). We will be buddying up with the same member of staff each time. I also had to make a promise and it has to be reviewed in one month, namely: to record where and when I sent the web link around. Once I make a promise like that I will keep that promise. During the break I showed my website to the staff who have put back up that one I set up in 2009. I will talk about that later in my book! Ever since ‘Young Disabled In Control’ has been up and running via the website and YouTube we’ve had over 1,000 views but only 72 responses which we need to somehow increase by publicizing to more places.
  14. *** CORRECTION *** It turns out I did not actually lose my place in the queue as a result of the internship, and I am now scheduled to start Prospects Transition on 17 July. In fact it could be even sooner, because of this thing called the Right to Control. My local authority the London Borough of Barnet is one of the pilot areas. http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Nl1/Newsroom/DG_178645 Still remains to be seen how helpful Prospects will be, especially in terms of finding a job in Bristol. I've set myself the task of drawing up a list of all the companies in the city that interest me in the hope that a door just might be opened somehow, someday...
  15. Not really my genre, more's the pity. I wonder if there will ever be an Aspie early music group?
